This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly launched Construction Industry Practice team. Construction is a key strategic growth priority for Chubb, and we are seeking an Underwriter to support our continued growth aspirations. This role offers the opportunity to work with a market-leading multiline product writing midmarket construction business, collaborating with construction experts in underwriting, risk engineering, and claims, and to be an integral part of our next stage of growth.
Role Purpose :
The primary purpose of this role is to underwrite Contract works and Liability risks for Construction with a strong focus on new business. The successful candidate will have a strong market presence, representing the Construction Industry Practice in broker and client meetings. They will also work closely with internal stakeholders across all lines of business, including claims, risk engineering, and global services, to provide excellent service to brokers and clients. Additionally, they will collaborate with other underwriting teams to deliver cross-line solutions.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Underwriting: Underwrite new business and renewal accounts according to defined guidelines and strategies.
2. Financial: Contribute to achieving the financial plan for the Construction Industry Practice; support in preparing financial forecasts and reforecasts.
3. Training & Mentoring: Provide training and mentorship to junior underwriters and serve as a role model. Handle underwriting referrals.
4. Compliance and Procedures: Ensure adherence to company standards regarding policy documentation, contract certainty, peer reviews, audits, and legal/regulatory requirements.
5. Leadership Support: Support the Construction Industry Practice in establishing and promoting best practices within the team.
6. Chubb Representation: Represent and promote Chubb to brokers and clients, and internally at meetings related to production and renewal.
7. Business Development: Maintain and develop relationships with key brokers and clients to ensure profitable growth, contributing to strategic growth plans.
8. Cross-Selling: Maximize cross-selling opportunities through collaboration with colleagues.
Skills & Experience Required :
1. Good knowledge of the Construction insurance market and competitor analysis.
2. Preferably an engineering background.
3. Recognized expertise as a professional in the field.
4. Results-oriented with decision-making skills and initiative.
5. Desire for ongoing technical and business skills development.
6. Ability to influence and execute at all levels internally and externally.
7. Extensive Contract works underwriting experience; liability underwriting knowledge is a strong advantage.
8. Understanding of construction methods, materials, project management, and industry practices.
9. Knowledge of regulations, building codes, and safety standards relevant to construction and insurance.
10. Willingness to stay updated on industry trends and changes.
11. Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
12. High proficiency in English and Spanish.
13. Strong analytical skills.
