High-Level Role Overview
The
Petrophysicist – Technical Advisor
will deliver high-quality technical expertise within the UTD Subsurface team and make a direct contribution to the client’s global exploration and development portfolio. The role involves active participation in field development planning, evaluation of new business opportunities, and exploration and appraisal projects. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, production engineers, and geologists across the organization. As part of multidisciplinary teams, the Technical Advisor will coordinate and execute geoscience activities in compliance with the client’s RCM Manual, Safety and Environmental Standards, and recognized industry best practices. This position requires extensive experience in petrophysical evaluation for integrated reservoir characterization studies worldwide, including reserves evaluation and auditing in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Develop well data acquisition plans, including log mitigation strategies and petrophysical evaluation programs aligned with well objectives.
Prepare, review, and validate technical specifications for contracts related to petrophysical services.
Analyse incoming data, identify associated risks, ensure data quality and fitness for purpose, and recommend mitigation measures where required.
Ensure quality control and real-time communication of well log acquisition, including supervision of third-party processing and evaluation activities.
Plan and execute Routine Core Analysis (RCA) and Special Core Analysis (SCAL) programs and integrate results with wireline log interpretations.
Perform porosity, permeability, saturation height, and rock typing modelling.
Quantify and model uncertainties in petrophysical parameters used for resource and reserve estimation.
Conduct comprehensive petrophysical evaluations using best practices for both open-hole and cased-hole environments, integrating all available subsurface data to support robust decision-making.
Assess uncertainty and associated risks in petrophysical interpretations.
Manage and maintain project databases, ensuring proper storage and traceability of original and interpreted data in corporate systems.
Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and production engineers to support integrated reservoir characterization workflows.
Prepare petrophysical inputs for volumetric calculations and economic evaluations throughout the reservoir life cycle.
Define risks, uncertainties, and mitigation strategies impacting subsurface evaluations and economic outcomes.
Capture, document, and transfer lessons learned, best practices, and performance indicators using established knowledge management frameworks.
Apply strong expertise in wellbore data acquisition planning, quality control, and interpretation using deterministic and stochastic methods.
Contribute to integrated subsurface studies using logs, core data, geological, geophysical, and production data, including RCA and SCAL-derived capillary pressure and saturation-height functions.
Demonstrate familiarity with industry-standard petrophysical software (e.g., Techlog).
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Geosciences (required).
Minimum
15 years of experience
in petrophysical evaluation of clastic and carbonate reservoirs in exploration and development settings.
Proven experience in global reservoir characterization projects.
Strong proficiency in
Microsoft Office
(Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
Petrophysical software experience:
Techlog
(required)
IP or Geolog (desirable)
Excellent written and spoken
English .
Basic knowledge of
Spanish
is an advantage but not mandatory.
