Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Business Development Specialist based in the Scientific and Technology Park of Bizkaia. We are looking for a scientifically trained professional with strong analytical skills, high autonomy, and at least three years of experience in research or business development in the life science industry. The ideal candidate learns fast, thinks critically, communicates with maturity, and thrives in a dynamic startup environment where responsibilities are diverse and impact is immediate.
You will play a central role in expanding HAWK’s international footprint by identifying, engaging, and developing relationships with researchers, clinicians, and biotech/pharma partners worldwide. This includes managing the full Business Development cycle: from initial outreach and preparation of tailored proposals to long-term strategic collaborations.
After receiving the appropriate training, you will be expected to operate independently, represent the company at national and international events, and communicate confidently with stakeholders at all levels. This role requires initiative, ownership, and the ability to contribute new ideas that drive meaningful growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Identify, qualify, and research prospective clients, priority market segments, and strategic partners to build a robust business development pipeline.
* Lead end-to-end stakeholder engagements with academic, clinical, and industry partners, owning the commercial process from opportunity to signature: negotiate terms, coordinate internal approvals, and close sales and partnership contracts with customers, collaborators, and distributors.
* Represent HAWK at national and international conferences and industry events, including delivering scientific presentations; support client/distributor visits, roadshows, and on-site activities as needed.
* Partner with internal teams (R&D, Operations, and Technical) to develop proposals, pitch decks, and supporting documentation required for collaborations and commercial partnerships.
* Track industry trends, competitor activity, and market dynamics to surface emerging opportunities, propose new growth initiatives, and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.
Qualifications
* University degree in Life Sciences: Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy, etc.
* Three years of experience in a research or business development position in the life science industry.
* Native or proficiency in English; Spanish is a plus.
* Strong understanding of biotechnology concepts and technologies, ability to read critically scientific documents.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
* Strong autonomy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to thrive both independently and within a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment.
* Availability to travel as required.
* PhD in Health Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field will be highly valued.
