We're hiring 4–5 Senior Software Engineers (Biologic Discovery) in Bilbao, Spain. On-site. Visa + relocation sponsorship.
Asegúrese de leer detenidamente la información sobre esta oportunidad antes de presentar su candidatura.
MiXCR is the standard for immune analysis, cited in thousands of papers and patents. Platforma is the OS we're building on top of it — turning bioinformatics into self-serve, interoperable "blocks" for real biologic discovery.
5 of the top 10 pharma run discovery programs with Platforma today. Our goal is 10 of 10 by year-end. Our tools are in the published methods of approved cancer immunotherapies and the vaccines that reached millions of people. The next paper that cites us could be the next drug.
We've merged our desktop, bioinformatics, and data teams into one. AI made cross-domain context cheap; the silo wall is gone. Bioinformaticians who leaned into engineering, and engineers who leaned into biology, now ship at multiples of what they used to. We need more of those.
WHAT YOU'D BUILD
Discovery pipelines: raw sequences → pre-IND leads. Therapeutic antibodies, biomarkers, end-to-end workflows real scientists use.
The Platforma SDK that computational biologists love: TypeScript, Vue, Tengo (a niche Lua‑like workflow DSL — yes, you'll learn it), Rust. Open Source.
The data layer: thousands of bioinformatics formats reduced to one common denominator. PFrames, Parquet, DataFusion, lazy columnar everything.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Strong TypeScript in 100k‑line monorepos; Polars > pandas.
Either prior bioinformatics exposure, or a serious appetite to learn it in your first month. We can teach VDJ recombination; we can't teach curiosity.
Tolerance for sparse docs and niche DSLs. "Fix the SDK, don't work around it" instinct.
NOT A FIT
Pure frontend/backend/bioinformatics with no crossover appetite.
"I'll just rewrite the abstraction before I understand it."
You want to stay strictly in TypeScript-land or strictly in bioinformatics-land. The role is the bridge.
THE OFFER
€90–120k base, real ESOP, ARR‑tied bonus — when we grow, you grow, in cash, this year, not "someday."
Bizkaia Special Impatriate Regime: ~15–20% effective tax. Net beats London, Berlin, Amsterdam.
Visa, relocation, soft‑landing package.
No HR, no take‑homes. You talk directly to engineering and to me.
Bilbao: ocean, mountains, Michelin restaurants, low cost of living, highest quality of life. On-site — cross‑domain context‑sharing genuinely doesn't work over Zoom.
Or email me directly: stanp (at) — subject "Wellfound", include your GitHub. I read every one and reply personally. xpzdshu Tell me about a scientific CLI you wrapped, a plugin SDK you built, or a Polars query that survived 50M rows.
