About BSC
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC‑CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and hosts EuroHPC JU and other high‑performance computing initiatives. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies that facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D across life, earth and engineering sciences and currently employs over 1,000 staff from 60 countries.
Context and Mission
The Technologies for Biomedical Research Lab (TechBioLab) within the Life Sciences Department of BSC brings together specialised teams that support research activities in the life sciences. TechBioLab focuses on developing infrastructures for bioinformatics, research data management, and scientific benchmarking of research software. It also contributes to Trusted Research Environments and coordinates the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB), a major ELIXIR node.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team to facilitate integration of resources into the ELIXIR ecosystem, support training material development, maintain the website, and coordinate technical engagement with user communities.
Key Duties
* Organise and participate in technical meetings and follow‑up across projects and initiatives where TechBioLab participates.
* Promote the visibility of INB activities at the national level and within ELIXIR platforms, communities, and focus groups.
* Organise local and national knowledge‑exchange and training events, and disseminate relevant events from elsewhere to the local and national bioinformatics communities.
* Communicate scientific and technical contributions from TechBioLab and INB to stakeholders ranging from the public to policy‑makers to researchers.
Requirements
* Education
o MSc degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
* Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
o At least 2 years of professional experience in a similar role.
o At least 2 years of professional experience within European projects at both application and execution stages.
o Good understanding of the Spanish and European life‑sciences research community ecosystem.
o Excellent command of social media for communicating scientific outputs.
o Previous experience organising research‑related events.
o Experience managing research projects, including technical support roles.
o Familiarity with funding mechanisms, grant writing, and proposal preparation for national and international research programmes.
o Proven ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
* Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Background in bioinformatics is an advantage.
o Experience participating in research proposals and projects funded by the EU Framework Programme, Spanish Plan Estatal, or bilateral contracts with companies.
o Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken) is essential.
* Competences
o Excellent verbal, report‑writing and editing skills; ability to represent the team in international project meetings.
o Ability to understand scientific literature and software documentation.
o Strong soft‑skills: communicative, enthusiastic, highly collaborative, proactive, self‑driven.
o Willingness to travel occasionally.
o Used to working under pressure and with strict deadlines.
o Used to working autonomously.
o Highly organised.
Conditions
* Location: BSC within the Life Sciences Department.
* Contract: full‑time (37.5 h/week) with flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, relocation support.
* Duration: open‑ended contract linked to project and budget duration.
* Holidays: 22 days of holidays + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st of December per collective agreement.
* Salary: competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience, adjusted to Barcelona’s cost of living.
* Start date: as soon as possible.
