Job Purpose :
The purpose of Unilever’s Legal Function is to protect the company and support its success by providing objective advice and creative legal solutions. This global team of approximately 500 lawyers and specialists is structured with corporate expertise Leads and General Counsels heading five Business Groups.
Intellectual Property (IP) is a key corporate expertise function led by Unilever’s Chief Intellectual Property Officer. The Trade Mark Team manages all trademark work, providing legal advice, risk management, and solutions related to trade mark and copyright law, including searching, clearance, filing, renewals, oppositions, infringement, look-alike products, unfair competition, licensing, mergers and acquisitions, and domain name management.
The Legal Powerhouse, established in 2023, comprises about 80 legal associates and paralegals across Bangalore, Barcelona, and Mexico City. It offers structured legal services to support our broader legal and business teams.
We are building an IP expertise hub in Barcelona and are seeking a Trade Mark Paralegal to support our (Senior) Trade Mark Counsel in various legal matters for our business partners.
Core Responsibilities :
* Conduct trade mark screening searches using specialised technology, analyse results, and prepare advice for the (Senior) Trade Mark Counsel.
* Prepare instructions for trade mark applications to external law firms for filing and prosecution.
* Support the annual trade mark renewal cycle, coordinating inputs from legal colleagues and business partners.
* Prepare evidence packages demonstrating Unilever’s use of trade marks for renewal purposes.
* Conduct trade mark watching to identify infringing third-party applications.
* Assist with trade mark disputes, including investigations and drafting pre-action correspondence.
* Manage requests for authorisation letters from legal colleagues and business partners.
* Support IP asset integration and divestiture activities related to M&A.
* Help manage trade mark precedent bank and maintain IP case management systems.
* Perform other tasks as assigned to support the Trade Mark Counsel.
About You :
* A university degree in law is required.
* Proven experience in trade mark portfolio management within an in-house legal team, preferably in the FMCG sector.
* Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
* Outstanding analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
* Proactive, adaptable, eager to learn, and capable of handling a varied workload.
* Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office, Copilot, and standard IP technologies.
* Team-oriented with the ability to work independently.
