IdiPAZ seeks a Clinical or Biomedical Laboratory Technician or equivalent qualification: Specialist Technician in Clinical Analysis to join a research project funded by the Carlos III Health Institute, led by Dr Alberto Borobia Pérez, specialist in pharmacology and coordinator of the IdiPAZ Clinical Trials Unit.
The IdiPAZ Health Research Institute is the result of a partnership between the Hospital Universitario La Paz, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the Healthcare Advisory Council of the Community of Madrid and the Foundation for Biomedical Research of Hospital Universitario La Paz, which will be the managing body of the Institute. This strategic alliance has made it possible to tackle research projects through joint multidisciplinary teams belonging to these institutions, making the most of the human and material resources available to these entities for research and promoting research fundraising.
In 2021, the scientific production of IdiPAZ included more than 1,600 publications (articles, editorials, letters, reviews, etc), 43% of the publications being our own documents. Original research and review articles by IdiPAZ researchers exceeded 1,200, more than 45% in the first quartile and more than 16% were published in journals of the first decile. Researchers from our institute have shown their participation in national and international scientific networks, with more than 81% of the total number of papers published in collaboration (81.3%). As for collaborative publications, almost 56% were national collaborations and 45% were international collaborations.
Since our formal incorporation as an Institute in 2009, we have been implementing measures and actions of particular importance that have laid the foundations for a new organizational culture based on equality, diversity and non-discrimination. Our values are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, the 2030 Agenda and the Corporate Social Responsibility policy of the Hospital Universitario La Paz, within whose scope the Foundation is included. Skills/Qualifications: IdiPAZ seeks a Clinical or Biomedical Laboratory Technician or equivalent qualification: Specialist Technician in Clinical Analysis to join a research project funded by the Carlos III Health Institute, led by Dr Alberto Borobia Pérez, specialist in pharmacology and coordinator of the IdiPAZ Clinical Trials Unit.
The selected candidate will perform the following duties:
* Massive Sequencing (NGS) Operation and Management
Comprehensive management, maintenance, and operation of massive sequencing (NGS) platforms, with specific experience in Illumina equipment: MiSeq, NextSeq (550DX), NovaSeq (6000).
Sample processing using omic technologies: TruSeq, Nextera, and Agilent and Twist platforms.
* Library Preparation and Complex Sample Processing
Preparation of libraries for NGS using various capture and enrichment kits and methodologies, including Kapa Hyperprep/Hyperplus, Nimblegen, and Agilent Sure Select.
Processing of biological samples of various types.
Experience in handling modified DNA for specific applications.
* Automation and Quality Control
Handling of robotic pipetting and laboratory automation systems (Hamilton Microlab Star, Eppendorf EpMotion 5075).
Operation of DNA fragmentation equipment (COVARIS M220 ultrasonication) and quality control/quantification of libraries using TapeStation (4150), Qubit, Nanodrop, and Tecan.
Specific Requirements
* Academic qualification: Higher Technical Certificate in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory Science.
* Proven long-term experience (more than 10 years) as a Senior Technician Specialising in Clinical Diagnosis in a hospital environment.
* At least 12 years of experience working in Genetics Services or Functional and Structural Genomics Units.
* Proficiency in Mass Sequencing (NGS)
* Handling of Complex Samples
* Laboratory Automation
The following profiles will be viewed favourably:
* Experience in epigenetics: Knowledge and practice in processing DNA methylation arrays and whole methylome studies.
* Protocol Optimisation (R&D): Proven ability to fine-tune new techniques, such as customised panels and exome processing (WES) with TruSeq and Nextera technologies, as well as genomes.
* Fragmentation and Quality Control Equipment: Handling of Covaris M220 ultrasonicators and quality control systems such as TapeStation 4150, Qubit and Nanodrop.
* Scientific and Teaching Activity: Participation as author or co-author in indexed scientific publications related to medical genetics.
* Presentation of posters or oral communications at national/international conferences in the sector (e.g. AETEL, AEGH, ESHG).
* Experience in the technical training of new professionals or students on work placements.

Additional Information
* Temporary employment contract until the end of the project: 30/06/2026
* Professional category of Senior Technician, Group IV, Area 2, according to the collective bargaining agreement.
* Part-time position, 24 hours per week. Monday to Thursday from 3pm to 8.30pm and Friday from 3pm to 7pm.
* Gross annual salary: €11.900
* Private matters: 6 working days per year.
* Vacation: 22 working days per year.
* December 24 and 31 are non-business days.

* Training and curricular merits: 6 points.
* Personal interview: 4 points
In the event that two or more candidates match the values and needs of the institution and meet the conditions required for the post, and where there is a tie, the candidate with a certificate attesting to a minimum degree of disability equal to or greater than 33 per cent shall prevail.
Selection process
Once candidates send their application to the IdiPAZ email address, their applications are stored until the deadline for receipt of applications for the offer is up. The HR department of IdiPAZ will make a first selection of applications selecting those who meet the criteria required in the offer. The selected applications are then evaluated by the selection committee, composed of the head of human resources at IdiPAZ, the President of the IdiPAZ Internal Scientific Committee and the Project Manager which will apply the scales described in each call for applications. Once the candidate is selected, he/she will be contacted by the HR department of IdiPAZ to provide the required documentation.
