- The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D; into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.

The deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based solutions to deliver advanced software functionalities is consolidating as a key competitive factor in several industrial domains. In the automotive industry, for instance, two examples are advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) software which are meant to support autonomous operation. This trend towards smarter cars goes hand in hand with increased connectivity (between cars and with the cloud) for increased efficiency and optimized production and deployment. In this context, a set of technologies originally developed for high-performance domains like cloud computing and data-center domains are increasingly considered in embedded systems like automotive. This includes containerization technologies, container-management technologies, and advanced configuration management paradigms such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies.
The offered position is meant to cover a Research Engineer position for the exploration of specific tools for containerization, container orchestration, and IaC in embedded critical systems. The overarching goal is simplifying, developing, and specifying software and hardware configuration and monitoring solutions that are beneficial for embedded systems in terms of timing predictability and resiliency to hardware faults. Those configurations must be managed as automated as possible exploiting reference tools used for managing and provisioning computer infrastructures (e.g. with Terraform and Ansible) and deploying and managing containers (e.g. with Kubernetes).
**Key Duties**
- Familiarization with existing IaC technologies specially Terraform and Ansible
- Familiarization with container management technologies like Kubernetes
- Understand integration/integration between those technologies (e.g. Terraform’s Kubernetes provider)
- Develop a small use case with the use of these technologies in which platform-related configurations can be provisioned and managed by these tools
**Requirements**:
- Education
- Master’s Degree on Computer Science, Computer Architecture or Telecommunications
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Practical experience in generic programming (C, C++, etc.)
- Familiarity with High Performance Domain-Specific Architectures
- Familiarity with Multiplatform Applications
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g. Python)
- Familiarity with RISC-V is a plus
- Competences
- Problem-solving, proactive, collaborative, and result-oriented work attitude
- Good communication skills including proficiency in English (both written and spoken
**Conditions**
