Job Purpose And Scope
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to run our Maersk Project Logistics Operation Team in Bilbao, Spain. This role will focus on managing our operations in Spain while delivering best-in-class solutions and exceptional service to our project logistics customers. You will be accountable for operational delivery, team performance, and collaboration with commercial stakeholders to support and accelerate the sustainable growth of our MPL offering in Spain.

You will work in an international, fast‑paced environment and collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams and customers to win new business, establish operational excellence, drive continuous improvement and cost leadership and develop our operational capabilities to contribute to the overall success of our Maersk Project Logistics division.
Key Responsibilities
* Full responsibility for building, leading, and developing the MPL execution team in Spain, effectively and efficiently managing resources and workload distribution
* Design, manage and execute complex, tailor‑made project logistics solutions, focusing on oversized cargo transportation across multiple market segments
* Drive operational excellence and ensuring high‑quality project execution across all assigned customer projects
* Collaborate closely with Sales and Business Development to support customer wins with technical know‑how and competitive, fit‑for‑purpose solution design
* Oversee end‑to‑end project execution, including on‑site supervision through your team where required
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives and implementing processes to drive efficiency, cost leadership, and service quality—internally and towards customers
* Foster and maintain strong client relationships, consistently delivering excellence.
* Build a dynamic, diversified and competitive vendor network to bring maximum control, efficiency and value to meet the requirements of the customer projects
* Build a stable and scalable business in Spain and develop new operational capabilities and skillset in order to support the commercial growth ambition in Spain
* Responsible for operational metrics and forecast reporting to management as part of performance cycles
* Ensure adherence to MPL Standard Billing Cycle and Job Costing Policy and facilitate Business Controlling and financial month end activities
* Act as a role model for Maersk values, safety standards, and compliance requirements
We Are Looking For
You are a proactive, customer‑centric and results‑driven leader with strong organisational and stakeholder management skills. You thrive in a complex, fast‑paced environment and are motivated by building and leading teams. You take ownership, embrace accountability, and bring people together to deliver outstanding results for customers.
* 5+ years of strong operational experience within freight forwarding, project logistics or managing breakbulk, over‑dimensioned and out‑of‑gauge cargo (sea and/or road)
* Track record of delivering results and demonstrated experience in local and end‑to‑end project coordination and execution
* Solid understanding of global trade and complex supply chain operations
* Strong commercial mindset and strong understanding of customer service dynamics and experience in managing client relationships (prior experience in roles with direct customer exposure preferred)
* Proven leadership experience, with a focus on leading small, highly‑engaged and high‑performing teams and developing talent
* Self‑starter with a highly collaborative mindset and a hands‑on, "can‑do" approach
* Ability to collaborate effectively within a matrix organization with strong negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management capabilities
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English
* Flexibility regarding working hours and willingness to travel as required
