Summary / Role Purpose

The Senior R&D Engineer will contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of modern web-based applications that leverage new and existing Ansys Structures technology. In this role, the Engineer will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help the team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives. They will work collaboratively to expose backend services in intuitive web-based applications while following best practices for robust and secure software development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Participates in planning, architecture, and research
2. Performs complex development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design, and solver research
3. Employs best practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring
4. Performs complex bug verification, release testing, and beta support for assigned products
5. Research problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
6. Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria, and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions
7. Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities
8. May be responsible for managing interns or co-ops but typically does not have direct reports

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

1. MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 3 years’ experience, or PhD with 1 year experience
2. Good knowledge and experience with Javascript/Typescript
3. Experience with client-server architecture and development
4. Experience with Web APIs (REST, gRPC, WebSocket, etc.)
5. Commercial experience with software design and development methodologies
6. Passion for understanding complex problems and crafting innovative technical solutions
7. An inquisitive and rigorous mindset
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
9. Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

1. Production experience and excellent technical knowledge with at least one web framework (Angular, React, etc.)
2. Experience handling large data sets for visualization in the browser (2D or 3D)
3. Experience designing & developing Web APIs (REST, gRPC, WebSocket, etc.)
4. Experience with DevOps tools and CI pipeline development
5. Experience deploying & maintaining customer-facing web applications in a commercial software environment
