GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for the general leadership and direction of all campus and alternativeschool programs for exceptional students. Coordination of personnel assignments, curriculum management, development of curricular service models, fiscal responsibility, community relations, and resources that are essential areas of administration.
MAJOR DUTIES
Establish and communicate a clear vision for Exceptional Student Services (ESS), programming, curriculum, instruction and standard operating procedures.
Effectively collaborate with pertinent stakeholders to establish goals, objectives, and plan according to a continuous improvement cycle.
Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders: district/site leaders, teachers, support staff, parents, students and community.
Lead professional development efforts related to ESS for stakeholders.
Establish, facilitate, and monitor department policy and procedures affecting the identification, evaluation and placement of students with disabilities.
Conduct a continuous program for department-related personnel recruitment, assignments and staff monitoring.
Supervise department business services regarding budgeting, staffing, data processing, capital and facility maintenance, and property control and inventory.
Supervise district-wide alternativeschool operations for exceptional students.
Facilitate a continuous program of teacher in-service education, department team building, and staff development.
Represent the department in all matters pertaining to multi-service and inter-agency agreements.
Serve in the capacity of Department Director in matters requiring system organizational planning, committee representation, and staff leadership.
Facilitate planning and priorities for systemic research and evaluation of department programs.
Responsible for the selection, training, supervision and development of campus ESS Facilitators.
Evaluate related (itinerant) service providers as appropriate (SLP, Psychologist, VI, HI, etc.).
Coordinate and evaluate all related contract staffing services.
Assist the Human Resources Department with ensuring Highly Qualified (HQ) mandates are met for all special education hires.
Serve as District Section 504 Compliance Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
Possess a Master's degree.
Possess Arizona Supervisory or Principal Certification.
Have specialization in Special Education or related field.
Have experience as a special education teacher in one or more areas of exceptionality.
Have a background in curriculum development and supervision.
Have a knowledge of contemporary delivery systems in programs for exceptional students.
Have experience in secondary school management and curricular practices.
Have knowledge of current federal and local laws and regulations relevant to civil rights and the IDEA.
Have an understanding of principles of program administration, federal funding, and vocational education for exceptional students.
Have experience in program administration, fiscal planning, and community relations.
Administrative experience preferred.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDDirectly responsible to Associate Superintendent for Instruction & Accountability.
SUPERVISION GIVENInstructional Leaders/ ESS Facilitators and the Assistant to the Director.
