VASS Benelux in partnership with EU Commission and The Joint Research Centre (JRC) seeks to engage an experienced Data Scientist, in Seville, Spain.
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy. The JRC, in partnership with other Commission services and stakeholders, provides high quality outcomes in relation to its mission, and contributing to the successful implementation of the EU policies.
Objective:
JRC’s objective with this contract is to get a service of AI solutions engineer (AI & data systems) providing support to ongoing projects related to the optimisation of data and information collection, management, in close interaction with scientists. The service provider must be very familiar and ideally have a solid experience with programming, AI tools and data management.
Due to the close interaction with JRC colleagues in the team (so-called EU-BRITE), the external service provider shall be based in Seville and work regularly in JRC premises.
Responsibilities:
The position consists of both general tasks, and specific tasks related to AI tools.
Specific tasks (AI tools):
1. AI-Powered Technology Scanning
• Develop web crawlers and automated data pipelines to collect information on emerging
technologies.
• Implement AI/NLP models to analyse and categorise technology trends.
• Maintain systems that continuously monitor technology deployment across industries.
• Integrate external data sources, APIs, and databases.
2. AI-Assisted Data Analysis
3. Secure Digital Platforms
• Implement data protection and privacy-compliant architectures .
• Ensure compliance with security standards and data governance policies.
• Design systems that allow secure participation in consultation processes.4
4. System Development & Integration
Qualifications:
• Excellent knowledge of large-scale text analysis.
• Good knowledge of data governance and compliance.
• Experience with graphs or semantic technologies.
• Familiarity with policy or regulatory data systems.
• Ability to apply high quality standards to all tasks.
• Ability to participate actively in meetings in English language, good communication skills.
• Capability of working in an international/multi-cultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in working in a team, understanding the needs, objectives and constraints of those in other disciplines and functions.
• Ability to adapt to unplanned changes or decisions.
At least 2 years of professional experience in each 3 specific expertise areas are mandatory:
• Computer Science and in particular Artificial Intelligence
• Data Science
• Software Engineering
