Context & Our Philosophy
Planeta Sana is an international initiative launched in 2019. Originally created as a responsible travel blog (World Travel-Able), the project focuses on raising awareness and providing valuable information about sustainability, health, and inclusion. We are currently a developing project, with the long-term vision of establishing an official non-profit organization (NGO / association) .
At Planeta Sana, we firmly believe our website is our foundation and the key to our long-term independence. Social media trends change, but a strong website remains a solid asset. While we use LinkedIn, Meta, and YouTube to engage with people, our absolute priority is driving readers to our platform and ensuring our mission is easily findable by AI-driven search engines.
While remaining an informative website, we are focused on constantly improving our current site performance, UX, and accessibility, while preparing the next phase of our platform: adding a collaborative, community-powered directory to give visibility to eco-friendly and inclusive businesses.
Your Core Missions (Technical Challenges):
- Website Improvement & UX: Continuous improvement of our informative site, optimizing user experience, layout responsiveness, and accessibility features.
- Directory Infrastructure & R&D;: Research, select, and deploy a viable, 100% free alternative to Directorist. You must find a solution that allows robust, participatory directory features.
- Front-End & Back-End Control: Ensure this alternative directory solution allows seamless listing management and public submissions from both the front-end (for users) and the back-end (for admins).
- Theme & Plugin Compatibility: Make this new tool work flawlessly with our current Astra theme. We are open to switching to another free theme if necessary, provided it offers the exact same high level of quality, speed, and compatibility.
- Multilingual Integrity: Ensure all developments seamlessly support our essential free plugins like Polylang. Our multilingual structure is a core asset and must remain unchanged .
- Rigorous Website Maintenance: Take full ownership of the site's health. This includes managing regular backups, security tasks, and crucial plugin updates to prevent any breakdown.
- Technical SEO & Indexing: Monitor and optimize our visibility using Google Search Console and analytics tools. Regularly audit the site to find, fix, or redirect broken backlinks to maintain top-tier search engine and AI indexing.
Profile Requirements (Seeking Dedicated & Proactive Partners):
- Team Player Mindset: We are all volunteers here. This means we share the workload, support each other, and you must be highly willing to work as a team.
- Values & Mindset: We value motivation and purpose above all. It is essential that you have a genuine interest in sustainability, health, and inclusion, alongside strong communication, teamwork, and organizing skills.
- Long-Term Commitment (Short-term, please skip this post): We are looking for a reliable technical partner who wants to grow with the project for the long haul. If you are only looking for a quick, short-term gig, this is not the right fit.
- Proactivity & Autonomy: We are a growing project in development. We do not micro-manage. We need a professional profile who actively proposes technical solutions, tests setups, and solves compatibility conflicts independently.
- Collaboration & Tools Mastery: You must be willing to use our internal management tools correctly and consistently: ClickUp for tasks tracking and Zulip for team communication.
- WordPress, Dev & Web Design Expertise: Deep knowledge of themes, free plugins, code customization, and technical SEO. You have strong skills in Web Design for creating aesthetically appealing layouts and functional designs, and you know how to track errors using Google Tools to protect the website’s health.
- Availability & Check-ins: A few adaptable hours per week, with the requirement to be occasionally available for team updates between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM (CET) .
- Remote Friendly & Location : Our team is mainly in Barcelona, Spain, but we have people from all over the world!
- Reliability: Volunteer does not mean amateur. We expect true commitment, high-quality execution, and clear communication.
What’s in it for you?
- Global Impact: Shape the technical foundation of a project dedicated to social and environmental good alongside a multilingual team.
- Professional Endorsement: A formal, high-quality letter of recommendation and endorsement on LinkedIn after a reliable and active collaboration.
- Please note: This is an unpaid volunteer position to help build the project.
