Senior Physical Security Engineer (GovCloud) – Data Center Design Engineering
This role focuses on leading the design and implementation of security measures for Amazon Dedicated Cloud (GovCloud) Data Centers across the Americas. The incumbent works with internal security teams and external partners to create resilient, cost‑effective facilities that meet government regulations such as Intelligence Community Directive 705.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead physical security designs (construction drawings and specifications) and architecture elements (cameras, access control, intrusion detection, fences, gates, etc.) for GovCloud DC projects.
- Collaborate with industrial security organizations within AWS to develop design standards and evaluate cost‑risk‑benefits.
- Remain current on latest physical security technologies and best practices for sensitive compartmented information facilities.
- Develop and maintain the Physical Security Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications.
- Create security design scope of work for RFPs.
- Review and direct the work of physical security engineering design consultants.
- Manage multiple fast‑paced projects simultaneously.
- Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and consultative interfacing (anticipated travel <25%).

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all Amazon data centers. You’ll work with a cross‑functional team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver high‑quality security solutions that support the most innovative cloud experiences.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of physical security design experience in a regulated industry.
- 3+ years of physical security design experience in data center or similar mission‑critical projects.
- 5+ years of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) physical security design experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 705.
- Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification.
- CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) certification.
- Vendor and consultant management skills.
- Exemplary alignment with Amazon’s leadership principles and functional depth requirements.
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay ranges from $128,600 to $212,800 per year depending on geographic market. In addition to base salary, compensation may include equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of remuneration.
