Seeking a Hardware Development Engineer with deep expertise in beamline instrumentation development. Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and test advanced ion, electron, and atomic beam sources
\n
- Design, assemble, and operate plasma diagnostic instrumentation
\n
- Plan and execute experiments to verify operational and performance parameters
\n
- Produce mechanical, optomechanical, and mechatronic designs using CAD tools (e.g. Fusion360 or PTCCreo), following best practices for ultra‑high vacuum (UHV) systems
\n
- Operate and integrate laboratory test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, DAQs, multimeters, timing devices, and multi‑instrument control systems
\n
- Develop Python scripts for experimental control, data acquisition, and data analysis
\n
- Iteratively refine and optimise designs based on experimental results
\n
- Prepare clear technical documentation and reports for internal stakeholders
\n

Qualifications
\n
- \n
- PhD or advanced degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands‑on industrial or research experience
\n
- Proven experience with plasma physics, molecular / atomic beams, ion beams, or electron beams in academic or industrial R&D; environments
\n
- Strong hands‑on experience with high and ultra‑high vacuum hardware and instrumentation
\n
- Excellent practical skills in experimental prototyping, system debugging, and test bench operation
\n
- Experience automating complex experimental setups involving actuators, lasers, and detectors is highly desirable
\n
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion360, or equivalent)
