2. Research Project and/or Area:
The candidate is required for the Environmental Biotechnology research line, particularly in projects related to Soil Health and Remediation, as the Phy2Shine project.
The PHY2SHINE (Microbial-Assisted PHYTOremediation for Effective Removal of Persistent Organic Pollutants:
SHeddINg light on the synergistic Effect of Soil-Plant Microbial Biosystems) project focuses on improving microbial-assisted phytoremediation to address Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) such as HCH-isomers and certain PAHs like benzo(a)pyrene and pyrene. These pollutants are toxic, slow to degrade, and accumulate in the environment, posing risks to ecosystems and human health. The project explores how plant-microbe interactions—especially using Miscanthus sp., a promising non-food crop can enhance pollutant degradation and soil health. PHY2SHINE aim to use advanced tools including multi-omics to understand the soil-microbiome-plant interaction to increase the pollutant biodegradation but also to understand the enhancement of soil.
Other projects related to Phy2shine within the Horizon Europe research programme:
* PHYBI :
PHYtomanagement as a sustainable feedstock source of lignocellulosic-based high value BIo-based products for textile applications.
* BIOREM :
Systems Biology, Artificial Intelligence and Advanced BiOtechnology Approaches to Improve Soil BioREMediation
* BIOSYSMO :
BIOremediation systems exploiting SYnergieS for improved removal of Mixed pOllutants (BIOSYSMO).
