Lead Data Governance Engineer
Lead design, implementation, and maintenance of data governance policies, processes, standards, and monitoring for Canonical’s data mesh solution. Develop Python‑based tooling to automate data mesh operations such as data labeling, quality metrics, access management, and security best practices.
Responsibilities
- Define, monitor, and enforce data governance policies.
- Design, build, and maintain tooling for automated data mesh operations.
- Deploy and operate services produced by the data governance team.
- Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to team members, as appropriate.
- Advocate and implement strong engineering and organizational practices.
Qualifications
- Exceptional academic record from high school and university, or a compelling alternative narrative.
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a relevant alternative path.
- Proven ability to exceed expectations and achieve outstanding results.
- Experience with data quality, governance, and security processes and tools.
- Proficiency in software development with Python and SQL.
- Professional, written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
- Result‑oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments.
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.
Nice‑to‑Have Skills
- Performance engineering and security experience.
- Experience with Airbyte, Ranger, Superset, Temporal, or Trino.
