Department Overview
The School of Music offers programs in Music Education, Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Composition, and Jazz Studies. Students can specialize in voice, wind, brass, string, percussion, or piano. The department serves a diverse student population from across California’s Central Valley.
Position Summary
The department seeks a qualified instructor to teach undergraduate courses, primarily applied studio lessons. Additional courses in Musicology, Music Education, or Music Theory may be assigned as needed.
Responsibilities
Prepare and deliver instruction for applied studio lessons and other assigned courses.
Conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams.
Maintain consistent class schedules and meet all full‑time periods as required.
Follow all university and system policies in accordance with Academic Policy Manual 306.
Conditional Appointment
Appointment is contingent upon budget, enrollment, and the faculty order of assignment as per the collective bargaining agreement. New lecturers are considered after tenured faculty and other senior instructors.
Compensation
Salary ranges are determined by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358). For a Master’s holder, salaries range from $5,507 to $6,677 per month for a full‑time (15 WTUs) assignment. Current salaries are typically near the minimum of the range and are adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned.
Semester Dates
Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
For private studio teaching, demonstrable performance proficiency and an active professional career as a soloist and ensemble performer.
For undergraduate/graduate courses, experience delivering structured, curriculum‑based instruction and maintaining a professional performance career.
Ability to recruit and retain students and to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
Eligibility to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in a related area.
Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level with positive evaluations or evidence of teaching excellence.
Distinguished professional background in university teaching or comparable settings.
