Senior Platform Engineer (Full‑Stack, Node.Js & Automation)
At Hays, we are partnering with a leading global pharmaceutical company to support the development of an internal platform focused on automation, efficiency, and process improvement within a highly regulated and innovation‑driven environment.
We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to contribute to building and evolving an in‑house platform designed to automate workflows, improve operational processes, and integrate seamlessly with enterprise systems used across international teams.
This role goes beyond traditional application development. You will work at the intersection of backend engineering, automation, and business process improvement, collaborating closely with technical and non‑technical stakeholders to deliver robust, secure, and scalable solutions.
What you will do
* Design, develop, and maintain an internal automation platform focused on operational efficiency and scalability
* Build server‑side rendered web applications using Node.Js, Express.Js, and EJS, following clear MVC principles
* Develop and maintain RESTful integrations with enterprise tools, in particular Jira APIs and webhooks
* Design efficient MongoDB schemas, optimize queries, and ensure data integrity and performance
* Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms, including session management, role‑based access, and CSRF protection
* Work closely with process owners, campaign managers, platform teams, and global stakeholders to identify automation opportunities
* Translate business and operational challenges into clean, maintainable, and scalable technical solutions
* Contribute to the evolution of the platform, promoting reuse, standardization, and future AI adoption
* Ensure high code quality through good architecture, documentation, and engineering best practices
What we are looking for
* 5+ years of hands‑on professional experience as a software engineer, working on full‑stack and/or platform‑focused solutions in production environments.
* Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), including asynchronous programming (async/await), modular code design, and advanced array and object patterns.
* Solid experience building backend applications with Node.Js and Express.Js, applying MVC architecture, routing, middleware, and clean controller/service separation.
* Hands‑on experience developing server‑rendered web applications using EJS templating, including layouts, partials, and reusable components.
* Strong frontend fundamentals using Bootstrap, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript to build dynamic and user‑friendly interfaces.
* Proven experience working with MongoDB and Mongoose, including schema design, data modeling, indexing, and query optimization.
* Experience implementing secure authentication and authorization mechanisms, including session management, CSRF protection, and role‑based access control.
* Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating with enterprise systems.
* Hands‑on experience with Jira APIs, webhooks, payload mapping, and resilient error‑handling patterns.
* Ability to collaborate with business stakeholders and translate process and operational needs into scalable technical solutions.
* Strong focus on code quality, maintainability, documentation, and engineering best practices.
* Advanced English Level
Nice to have
* Experience building internal platforms, developer tools, or automation frameworks
* Exposure to AI‑assisted workflows, intelligent routing, or decision automation
* Background in process improvement, Lean, or Operational Excellence environments
* Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma concepts
* Experience documenting platforms or creating reusable technical patterns
