JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Scientist in the Assay Development department is an experienced immunoassay developer expected to provide technical leadership across one or more development projects, acting as a subject matter expert and driving assay design, execution, and problem‑solving from feasibility through validation. The candidate is fully competent in one or more scientific/technical areas, plans and conducts scientific assignments, and provides project planning, tracking, and administrative support for new product development projects.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Supervises an expanded range of laboratory procedures and experiments.
- Periodically communicates problems, progress, and status updates to the supervisor and across the organization.
- Supervises the selection of appropriate experimental and analytical methods and defines protocols.
- Schedules own and team activities, sets priorities, and implements plans to accomplish objectives.
- Detects deviations in results, modifies protocols or standard methodology to resolve problems, and offers innovative solutions.
- Revises specialized laboratory procedures and reviews existing procedures and methods.
- Schedules laboratory testing and supervises coordination.
- Writes research papers, reports, reviews, and technical summaries.
- Prepares research proposals and funding applications/bids.
- Approves electronic or paper laboratory notebooks ensuring accurate data recording.
- Supervises junior staff including technicians and mentors Scientist I and Scientist II.
- Keeps up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.
- Must be capable of performing all duties required of a Scientist II.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCEBachelor’s Degree in biology or a related science. Additional higher degrees are valuable.
Experience: Minimum seven (7) years of scientific / in‑vitro diagnostic research. Valuable experience includes expertise in hemostasis and particle‑based turbidimetric and/or chemiluminescent immunoassays.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Laboratory experience with extensive knowledge of biological and chemical procedures.
- Proficiency with laboratory equipment and basic software tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Knowledge of SAP preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish or Catalan; advanced English reading, speaking, and writing.
