Responsibilities
Define the regional strategy, policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, good practices, compliance programs, and frameworks related to environmental and sustainability topics.
Lead the implementation of all policies and compliance programs to increase environmental knowledge and awareness across sites and the organization, engaging EHS management teams, plant directors, and leadership.
Identify new environmental and sustainability topics in the region based on new regulations, company expectations, and customer demands;
proactively implement necessary requirements and allocate resources.
Communicate environmental and sustainability issues and assist in their resolution according to regulations and best practices. Support sites in problem-solving efforts.
Provide visibility on environmental progress, performance, and issues to the leadership team.
Evaluate performance against compliance goals, offering coaching, guidance, and feedback to leadership levels to improve environmental and sustainability results. Track performance and metrics using digital databases.
Organize environmental audits and inspections to identify deviations and opportunities for improvement. Maintain a database of environmental information per site to identify risks and opportunities.
Support the introduction of new products, equipment, or systems from an environmental perspective, ensuring all relevant topics are considered (water, waste, air pollution, energy consumption, etc.).
Propose improvement actions, CapEx needs, or environmental projects to meet legal requirements or enhance current facility conditions.
Support environmental emergency preparedness and response activities, including defining training requirements for plant personnel.
Assist sites in developing compliance assurance programs, policies, and tools to manage local requirements, especially where no dedicated EHS resources are available.
Coordinate incident investigations related to environmental impacts and non-conformances, monitoring corrective action closures.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Engineering degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or Chemistry;
Master's in Environmentpreferred.
Certification related to waste, wastewater, and air pollution.
Minimum 10 years of experience in environmental management, including leadership roles.
Fluent in English.
Experience with EU environmental regulations and willingness to learn local regulations across countries, especially in waste, wastewater, air pollution, extended producer responsibility, and microplastics.
Knowledge of ISO sustainability standards, including environmental management, energy management, carbon footprint, GHG, and life cycle assessment.
Experience with zero-pellet loss programs and OCS Europe certification schemes.
Knowledge of best available techniques for environmental impact reduction in sectors like wastewater treatment, gas treatment, hazardous waste management, and energy efficiency.
Ability to understand production processes to identify environmental impacts and develop KPIs for compliance and sustainability monitoring.
Experience working in industrial environments with engineering knowledge of production processes.
Ability to develop and implement environmental emergency preparedness and response plans.
Strong communication skills, capable of interacting at all organizational levels and delivering clear presentations.
Problem-solving skills with the ability to develop, sell, and implement solutions.
Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset and adaptable to new methods and ideas.
