The Global Procurement Category Head plans and leads all strategic aspects within the category across divisions on a global level, developing proposals for strategic business decisions. The role provides high-value procurement solutions aligned with category strategies;
supports third-party vendor selection, vendor development, technology management, and performance measurement activities. It also ensures best-in-class delivery of external services and products to support projects and achieve year-on-year productivity improvements, cost savings, and process enhancements in collaboration with business stakeholders. About The Role Major Accountabilities: Implement category strategic goals from the overall Procurement strategy and ecosystem management. Plan, organize, and manage projects considering priorities, resources, budgets, issues, and constraints to achieve desired results;
define clear project scope and objectives;
utilize software and tools to plan, track, and report status. Map the value chain, analyze it, and derive potential scenarios, including understanding and applying total cost of ownership and should-cost modeling. Participate in and/or lead financial discussions, applying financial knowledge in budgeting, tax aspects, and structuring deals with ecosystem partners. Support compliance and risk management by monitoring end-to-end compliance and executing risk mitigation plans. Project the dynamics and impacts of mergers and acquisitions, extracting and consolidating information for insights in category strategies. Maintain and update procurement applications, continuously improving procurement content and automation. Manage data analysis and reporting, analyzing spend, demand, supply markets, and competitors to derive insights for category strategies.
Demand Management Ensure the right balance between business needs and Novartis’ strategy. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify cost-effective ways to meet business objectives.
Sourcing and Supplier Relationships Management Execute Source-to-Contract processes, including strategy formulation, negotiations, and tactical approaches to support procurement objectives.
Manage Relationships with Stakeholders Analyze specifications for optimization, linking them to customer value, and challenge specifications confidently. Build long-term, sustainable relationships, understanding stakeholder landscapes, and demonstrating political acumen.
Minimum Requirements At least 10 years of relevant industry-specific experience. University degree required;
Master’s or advanced degree in business, marketing, finance, or engineering preferred. Preferably 5-10 years of experience in procurement within the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on category management, supplier management, or related areas, especially in the Commercial and Insights domain. Strong project management or leadership experience.
