The ideal candidate would have interest and/or experience with unmanned systems, power systems, batteries, electrical motors, thermal integration, system engineering, electrical hardware, prototyping/product development, and have a vision for the future of these systems.
Project Engineer, Electrical will work in a multidisciplinary environment with electrical, mechanical, GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) and software engineers.
This position involves development from concept through implementation and testing, including flight testing (entire lifecycle).
Project Engineer, Electrical will be responsible for updating, maintaining, and sustaining the Avionics and RF subsystems of aircraft from design to fabrication to product manufacturing to product end-of-life.FLSA Status: ExemptSalary: $110,000 - $150,000 AnnuallyPurpose: Project Engineer, Electrical will be at the forefront of R&D; for current and future products to advance our technologies' positive impact on a global scale.
Project Engineer, Electrical will also provide updates, maintenance, and sustainment of current and future product logs.Duties and Responsibilities:Design analog and digital communication systemsDesign power management systems for low power systemsDesign, development, fabrication, assembly, testing, and delivery of electronic products, including engineering drawingsDesign and implement circuit boardsImplement avionics design improvementsAid anomaly investigations and determine required avionics or RF repairsSupport avionics and RF production activitiesTrack and remedy field avionics issuesTroubleshoot complex systems such as avionics, embedded systems, and Radio Frequency (RF) links, supporting Flight Test operationsAssess root cause to critical issues and contribute to sustainability and reliability of productsDesign, update, and troubleshoot EMI/EMC to minimize noise in the systemGenerate hardware requirements, design documents, validation testing plans, and schedulesInspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational & safety standardsUpdate, maintain, and sustain subcomponent inventoryUpdate, maintain, and sustain avionics and RF wiring harnesses and subsystems, including engineering drawings/documentationTrack electronic component obsolescence activitiesLead electronic BOM cost-out activitiesQualifications:B.S. in Electrical Engineering or other degrees and experiences that are deemed equivalent6+ years in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline with equivalent experienceExperience designing, developing, and testing commercial and/or military UAS.Experience in digital communication languages such as CAN, UART, I2C, RS232 & Ethernet.Experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex embedded systems and productsElectronics and Mechanical Background: Wire harness design/fab, electronics prototyping, soldering, analog and digital circuitry, high-speed and low-speed CAN, etc.Broad understanding of Radio Frequency (RF), PCB Design, Power Systems, and Batteries with an area of expertise in one or more of these topicsHands-on experience in debugging and root cause corrective action testingHands-on experience in integrating electro-mechanical systemsCandidates with spacecraft/satellite, UAV aircraft, robotics development experience and/or hobby drone experience will be given special considerationCandidates must be US Person for compliance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations)Skills Required:Good understanding of board design and component placement/layout of mixed digital, analog, and RF electronics and antennas to prevent EM interference and susceptibility.Ability to create and review revision controlled electrical engineering drawings that helps to define and illustrate specific requirements, processes, and designs.High degree of comfort with using hardware and software test tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, Spectrum analyzers, Multimeters, RF power meters, vector scopes, antennae pattern analysis)Knowledge of and experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layoutKnowledge of and experience with troubleshooting complex systemsKnowledge of general engineering principles, mathematics, and physicsProficient with office software (Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project, etc.)Working Conditions:Primarily in an office environment, and shop environment.
