We are seeking a highly motivated, commercially and technically savvy Backbone Network Business Developer to join our Asia Pacific (APAC) team within the Global Connectivity Infrastructure Development (GCID) organization. In this role, you will develop innovative solutions to scale and expand one of the world's largest and most complex networks while delivering operational excellence to our stakeholders.
The team is responsible for planning, developing, and acquiring the network infrastructure that drives Amazon's internal operations and connects Amazon to the rest of the world.
As a subject matter expert in the telecommunications marketplace, you will bring extensive experience with vendors, physical network infrastructure, optical technologies, and backbone network engineering. You will actively drive commercial and technical vendor network strategy within the Asia Pacific region, working closely with suppliers, technology partners, and service teams to meet customer demands.
Your responsibilities will include identifying suppliers and developing technical and commercial solutions for wavelengths, dark fiber, and submarine cable capacity.
Key job responsibilities
* Identify suppliers and develop technical and commercial solutions for wavelengths, dark fiber, and submarine cable capacity.
* Develop strategic backbone network plans for stakeholder approval and provide regular progress updates.
* Organize, track, and coordinate with vendors and internal teams to deliver new backbone capacity.
* Partner with capacity planners and engineers to ensure efficient and cost-effective network topology.
* Collaborate with finance partners on budget creation, business case development, deal analysis, and supplier invoicing.
* Track telecommunications market trends in vendor technologies, coverage, pricing, and deal structures.
In addition, you will track telecommunications market trends and developments in vendor technologies, coverage, cost structures, and deal frameworks. By applying a unique blend of industry and technology experience, you will work with both external partners and internal teams to find creative, cost-effective, and innovative solutions to meet Amazon’s ongoing growth and expansion needs worldwide.
Basic Qualifications
* 5+ years of solving problems with technology in the Telecommunications industry.
* Experience working in a network planning, network construction/implementation, or commercial implementation role at an ISP, telecoms operator, or Hyperscaler.
* Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems, or experience managing teams.
* Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements.
* Experience delivering financial models and analysis that drive measurable business impact.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working in large-scale networking environments.
* Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.
* Knowledge of network cabling, optic types, and test equipment.
* Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals such as BGP, OSPF and other R&S technologies.
* Experience working with speech and text language data in multiple languages.
