What success looks like in this role
Develops cutting edge software and interface approaches for desktop, mobile and other devices enabling access to company applications, products and services. Coordinates with Unisys engineering and design teams to define application features, create mockups and write code for final product user interface and interaction model designs. Designs and implements aesthetically pleasing applications to meet end user needs and expectations. Focus is primarily on front end engineering.
Key Responsibilities
* Leads efforts to design and develop complex, high-volume and business critical user interfaces and touch points.
* Leads efforts to build next generation front-end architecture, allowing development teams to build and deploy User Experience solutions quickly and independently.
* Drives efforts to bring unified design language across the app / desktop / mobile ecosystem and set high standards for client experience.
* Adds to the company’s foundational knowledge set (i.e., personas, use cases, application mapping).
* Identifies, conveys, and plays an instrumental role in resolving user interface challenges across different touchpoints.
* Evaluates new technologies for in-company application.
* Performs regular code and design reviews for features delivered by other developers.
* Prototype and validate interface concepts using modern web technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks).
* Stay current with emerging trends, tools, and technologies in UX and interface engineering.
* Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and represent the organization at industry events or in publications.
* Ensure consistency and coherence in UI elements, interactions, and visual language across products.
* Mentor and guide teams on best practices, design thinking, and user-centered design methodologies.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
Technical Expertise
* Advanced UX/UI Design Skills: Mastery of user-centered design principles, wireframing, prototyping, and interaction design for complex digital products.
* Design Systems: Ability to design, implement, and maintain scalable design systems that ensure consistency across products.
* Cross-Platform Experience: Knowledge of responsive and adaptive design for web and mobile applications.
Leadership and Collaboration
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with product managers, engineers, designers, and stakeholders to deliver cohesive solutions.
* Project Management: Skilled in agile methodologies, project planning, and prioritization to drive on-time delivery of high-quality interfaces.
* Stakeholder Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting design concepts and rationales to diverse audiences.
Innovation and Strategic Vision
* Trend Awareness: Up-to-date knowledge of emerging UX/UI technologies, design trends, and best practices.
* Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical and creative thinking skills to address complex user and business challenges.
* Vision and Strategy: Ability to set and communicate a long-term vision for interface design and user experience across the organization.
Professional Experience and Education
* Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating leadership in the delivery of impactful, user-centered digital products.
* Years of Experience: Typically 8+ years of relevant experience in UX/UI design and engineering, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
