The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, and is involved with European HPC initiatives. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress. The laboratory engages in ELIXIR/INB activities and OpenEBench initiatives among others, focusing on Life Sciences data, software benchmarking and related areas. The candidate will join a dynamic Life Sciences department team working in ELIXIR and INB contexts and related national initiatives.
Context And Mission
The Technologies for Biomedical Research Lab (TechBioLab) within the Life Sciences Department brings together teams to enable research activities in the Life Sciences. Activities focus on developing infrastructures for centralized and federated analysis and learning, with emphasis on sensitive data in federated settings and Trusted Research Environments for data usage under configurable conditions. TechBioLab coordinates the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB) and related ELIXIR activities. OpenEBench provides benchmarking platforms and tools monitoring for bioinformatics software.
The candidate will join a global and collaborative environment connected to ELIXIR and INB efforts and related national initiatives.
Key Duties
* Take the lead on the design and implementation of the OpenEBench visual interfaces.
* Develop, document and maintain research software for integration and biological data, following ELIXIR guidelines.
* Maintain communication with ELIXIR platforms, communities, and management; participate in regular meetings.
* Contribute to supervising technical developments of junior members at the TechBioLab.
Requirements
Education
* BSc or MSc degrees in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Sciences or Multimedia Engineering with relevant experience in visual interfaces development.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
* At least 2 years of professional experience in a similar role.
* At least 2 years of experience with web-development frameworks like Vue.js, Angular, React or similar.
* At least 2 years of User-Centered Design experience.
* Experience in database design and management (SQL and noSQL): MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite or similar; MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Cassandra or similar.
* Experience with advanced software packaging procedures.
* Experience in software quality management.
* Experience working with Unix/Linux systems.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
* Experience in developing, generating and using software containers (e.g., Docker, Singularity) and orchestration using Docker Compose, Kubernetes, Ansible or similar.
* Experience in developing project technical specifications.
* Fluency in English (written and spoken).
* At least basic knowledge of Spanish.
* Competences: ability to understand scientific literature and software documentation; ability to communicate scientific results; ability to work independently and in coordination with others; ability to represent the team in international project meetings; accustomed to working under pressure with strict deadlines.
Conditions
The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract (37.5 h/week), a good working environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures. Duration: Open-ended contract linked to project and budget duration. Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st of December per collective agreement. Salary: competitive and aligned with qualifications and cost of living in Barcelona.

Development of the recruitment process
The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system (Concurso-Oposición).
The recruitment process consists of two phases:
* Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other relevant information (40 points).
* Interview phase: Evaluation of technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience (60 points).
A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained. The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people with gender-balanced representation. The process follows Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment (OTM-R) principles. Final decisions consider interviews, technical exercises, and feedback is provided to participants.
