Underwriting team members assess medical and financial risks on individual life insurance applications.The Director of Life Underwriting will accurately assess risks, protect the company's mortality results, and support sales. The role requires a customer-centric attitude, excellent communication skills, and accountability for accurate, prompt processing. It reports to the Managing Underwriting Director and collaborates with Case Managers, Internal & External Wholesalers, and NMO’s/Firms.ResponsibilitiesUnderwrite complex formal and informal applications independently within approval guidelines.Analyze complex information to reach comprehensive medical and financial assessments based on company policies.Manage change effectively, resolve conflicts, and negotiate positive outcomes.Understand the impact of work processes across functions and make informed decisions.Organize and manage a large caseload efficiently.Demonstrate superior underwriting technical knowledge and skills.Provide training on underwriting topics to internal and external customers.Interact effectively with a sophisticated field force dealing with an upscale market.Skills and QualificationsExperience with brokerage distribution marketplace.10+ years of life underwriting experience, handling large face amount cases.Approval authority up to $10,000,000.FLMI, FALU, or CLU designations preferred or progress toward these.CompensationThe salary range is $128,000 to $138,000 depending on location, skills, and experience.
