Job Title: Numerical simulations for advanced combustion and soot prediction in aero engines (R1)

Position within the Propulsion Technologies Group, CASE Department of BSC, focusing on large‑eddy simulations (LES) of combustion and soot prediction in aero engines.

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC‑CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It hosts MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe. BSC delivers HPC services and conducts research in computer and computational science for life, earth and engineering disciplines, with over 1,000 staff from 60 countries.


Key Responsibilities

* Apply and develop the Conditional Moment Closure (CMC) and Discrete Sectional Method (DSM) combustion models within the in‑house code Alya.
* Analyze flame instabilities using advanced techniques such as the Flame Transfer Function (FTF).
* Generate tools and codes related to the LES simulations and soot predictions.


Requirements

* Education: MSc Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautics or Mechanical Engineering with background in turbulence and combustion.
* Essential Knowledge and Experience: General knowledge of fluid mechanics, LES, numerical methods, combustion chemistry.
* Additional Knowledge: Computational skills and parallel programming for HPC; fluency in English (required) and Spanish (highly valuable).
* Competences: Ability to work independently and in a team; proactive orientation.
