About BSC
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC‑CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It hosts MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a founding member of the former PRACE network and the current hosting entity for the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress, combining HPC service provision and R&D in computer and computational science across life, earth and engineering sciences. Context and Mission
The High‑Performance Embedded Systems (HPES) Laboratory at BSC carries out research on bringing HPC technologies to safety‑critical systems such as automotive, space, avionics, robotics, and manufacturing. Work is mainly carried out in bilateral projects with EU companies and European‑funded projects. BSC is developing innovative RISC‑V based CPU processors, accelerators, and MPSOs, and performing performance analysis of the latest commercial computing solutions. We are hiring a candidate to perform performance characterization and benchmarking for BSC RISC‑V designs.
Key Duties
* Generate and optimize benchmarks and kernels for RISC‑V platforms
* Port and run those benchmarks on simulators and FPGA prototypes
Requirements
* Education
o Degree in Computer Sciences, Electronics, Embedded Systems or related disciplines
* Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Familiar with computer architecture
o Experience optimizing low‑level software
* Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Familiar with performance analysis in FPGAs and/or VHDL simulators
o Experience with C and assembler programming
* Competences
o Problem‑solving, pro‑active, result‑oriented work attitude
o Good communication skills, fluent English (written and spoken)
Conditions
* Location: BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
* Full‑time contract (37.5 h/week) with flexible hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and relocation support
* Duration: open‑ended contract tied to the project and budget
* Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st December as per collective agreement
* Salary: competitive, commensurate with qualifications and cost of living in Barcelona
* Starting date: 16 January 2026

Recruitment Process
The selection will be conducted through a competitive examination system (“Concurso‑Oposición”) consisting of two phases:
1. Curriculum Analysis (40 points)
2. Interview phase (60 points). A minimum of 30 points out of 60 is required for eligibility.
The panel will comprise at least three people, with a minimum 25 % representation of women. A personality questionnaire and a technical exercise will form part of the process. All candidates who participate in the interview phase will receive feedback detailing the acceptance or rejection of their profile.
