The Lead VFX Artist will lead and motivate a team of talented VFX Artists to deliver AAA quality assets. This role involves significant responsibility and the opportunity to develop a strong team, requiring artistic, technical, and managerial expertise. You will plan, organize, follow-up, and evaluate your team’s work to ensure production objectives in terms of time and quality are met. The role also involves anticipating challenges and providing solutions to deliver stunning visual experiences.
The ideal candidate is an experienced VFX Artist with a portfolio demonstrating real-time FX work, including at least one shipped AAA game. A passion for VFX across gameplay, combat, environmental atmospherics, and destruction is essential.
You will supervise the design and implementation of high-quality AAA VFX, ensuring they support gameplay and art direction. Responsibilities include creating and optimizing VFX within performance constraints, collaborating with art, animation, design, and programming teams, translating references into prototypes, and maintaining best practices documentation.
What you’ll be doing
* Create high-quality particle effects and textures.
* Collaborate with Art, Gameplay, Design, and Animation teams to develop in-game VFX, from concept to final implementation.
* Use engine tools, Maya, Houdini, Substance, and other software to create VFX assets.
* Implement VFX content, including in-world placement and scripting behaviors.
* Work with teams to solve artistic challenges.
* Create effects supporting the art direction.
* Optimize effects for performance and manage memory and costs.
* Establish visual effects benchmarks with minimal supervision.
* Storyboard VFX concepts.
* Maintain documentation of best practices.
Requirements
What we’re looking for
* Knowledge of Unity and Unreal Particle Systems.
* Experience with Unreal’s Cascade interface.
* Portfolio with Flipbook VFX and stylized effects.
* Proficiency with Maya, 3ds Max, Photoshop, Substance, and creating in-engine assets.
* Strong understanding of real-time VFX techniques and pipelines.
* Experience with 3D and VFX authoring tools.
* Portfolio demonstrating technical and artistic VFX execution.
* Experience optimizing VFX for console and mobile platforms.
* Shader creation experience in Unity and Unreal.
* Knowledge of game production pipelines.
* Good sense of timing, animation, and motion.
* Leadership skills and excellent communication.
* Experience mentoring artists.
Good to Have
* Scripting/plugins in MEL, C/C++ for Maya.
* Skills in modeling, skinning, animation, or lighting.
* Bilingual in Spanish.
