Technical Engineer - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

The Opportunity
Our Client is a leading international pioneer in the power systems and energy storage sector. As they continue to scale their global operations, they are seeking a highly skilled Technical Engineer to bridge the gap between complex engineering and commercial strategy.
Based in Spain (ideally Madrid), this is a high-impact, customer-facing role where you will act as the technical "anchor" for large-scale energy storage projects. You will be responsible for translating intricate client requirements into robust, competitive, and high-performance technical solutions while collaborating with engineering hubs abroad.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Design & Solution Engineering
Lead the functional and technical design of utility-scale BESS solutions.
Validate system configurations (batteries, PCS, and PMS/EMS).
Architect the optimal balance between technical performance, financial cost, and risk mitigation.
2. Bid & Tender Management
Own the technical response for RFQs and RFPs, managing approximately 5–7 tenders in parallel.
Conduct meticulous Clause-to-Clause reviews, ensuring every technical requirement is analyzed and addressed.
Coordinate with suppliers for equipment selection and lead the costing of engineering packages.
3. Strategic Technical Interface
Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, defending technical solutions during the tender phase.
Collaborate closely with the commercial teams in Spain and the central engineering headquarters in Bordeaux.
Negotiate technical interfaces and validation protocols directly with customers.
4. Coordination & Continuous Improvement
Orchestrate internal technical meetings across multidisciplinary teams (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Electronics).
Capture "Lessons Learned" from the bidding process to drive improvement in future designs.
Profile Requirements
Education & Experience
Academic Background: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Power Electronics.
Professional Experience: Ideally 8-10+ years of experience; however, candidates with 5+ years and a stellar electrical foundation are encouraged to apply.
Sector Expertise: Proven track record in BESS, renewables (Wind/Solar), or grid-connection projects.
Tender Excellence: Strong experience with RFQ processes and detailed Clause-to-Clause analysis.
Technical & Soft Skills
Technical Depth: Deep understanding of electrical grid integration and industrial system architectures.
Project Management: Highly structured and able to manage multiple high-priority bids simultaneously.
Languages: Advanced English and Spanish are mandatory.
French is considered a significant plus for coordination with the French engineering team.
Bonus Assets
Experience in site commissioning or direct grid-connection negotiations.
