At Kantox we are looking for a Data Engineer to join our Data team to design, improve and enhance our current data architecture. Kantox is a growing organisation with growing data needs, therefore scalable, reliable and efficient data architecture and orchestration of data pipelines are fundamental for our business.

This is an exciting full-time job with great challenges, as you will help build and automate our streaming data architecture and help us grow our Data team. You will be joining a vibrant and passionate group of software engineers that hail from all parts of the world.

We believe in constructively challenging each other pushing our knowledge, code, processes to the absolute limit. Our processes are based around continual self improvement, continuous code integration and deployment.

About the team
You will collaborate closely with product, business intelligence, and cloud engineering teams to develop and manage data products across multiple domains. Your efforts will ensure the delivery of data that supports internal decision-making and provides clients with scalable and reliable visibility.

Your future role at Kantox
As a Middle Data Engineer, you\'ll play a key role in building and optimising data transformations and pipelines within our modern data platform. You\'ll contribute to the development of high-quality, performant, and reliable data models — with a strong focus on SQL, dbt and data quality — and collaborate closely with other engineers and stakeholders to deliver impactful data products. You\'ll work in a modern Lakehouse/Data Mesh environment powered by AWS, Apache Iceberg, dbt, Trino, Kafka, Dagster, and other cutting-edge technologies. This is a great opportunity to grow your career while working on challenging, high-impact data problems in a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

What you will do

Build and maintain high-performance, tested and well-documented dbt models, following best practices

Write efficient, maintainable, and scalable SQL transformations across different layers of the data stack

Collaborate with analytics and domain teams to translate data needs into well-modeled, trusted datasets

Help monitor and improve the quality, reliability, and performance of data pipelines

Integrate new data sources into the platform through ingestion pipelines (batch or streaming)

Implement data tests, CI/CD validations and participate in peer reviews to ensure code quality

Contribute to data product development within a Data Mesh architecture

Participate in agile rituals and collaborate with cross-functional teams

Who you are

2+ years of experience in Data Engineering or a similar role

Strong experience with SQL and dbt, and a passion for clean, efficient code

Solid understanding of data modeling principles (dimensional, star schema, SCDs...)

Experience working with big data tools like Trino, Spark, or similar query engines

Familiarity with batch and/or streaming pipelines, e.g. Kafka or RabbitMQ

Experience writing data tests and following version control workflows (e.g., Git)

Mid-level proficiency in Python (used for scripting, testing, or orchestration logic)

Familiarity with data quality tools like dbt tests, Great Expectations, or Soda is a plus

Exposure to orchestration tools like Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect is a plus

Comfortable working in a collaborative and agile environment, using tools like Jira, GitHub and Slack

Curious, pragmatic, and always looking to learn and improve

Fluent in English

Permission to work within the EU is a plus

Bonus points (not required)

Familiarity with Apache Iceberg or other Lakehouse formats (Delta, Hudi)

Experience with Trino, or other distributed SQL engines

Exposure to Data Mesh or Data Contracts concepts

Experience working with AWS services like S3

Understanding of GitOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure as code is a plus
