Windows Deployment Engineer – Utility Technology Solutions

About the Role
We are seeking a Windows Deployment Engineer to join our deployment team, responsible for installing and configuring our proprietary Windows-based software platform at large electric utility companies across the globe. This role combines deep Windows systems expertise with partnership-oriented client engagement, serving as both deployment engineer and Level 1 support for critical infrastructure software that powers modern grid operations.
You will deploy our solution across enterprise environments spanning 50-100 Windows servers and 50-100 workstations, working shoulder‑to‑shoulder with utility IT and operations teams as a trusted technology partner. This is a hands‑on technical role requiring mastery of Windows enterprise administration, SQL Server management, and the communication skills to thrive in high‑stakes utility environments.
Core Responsibilities
Deployment Execution: Install and configure proprietary software across Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 and Windows 10/11 enterprise environments using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), Windows Imaging (WIM), and PowerShell automation
Infrastructure Configuration: Manage Active Directory (users, computers, sites/services, complex GPOs), DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP networking, Windows Updates, and antivirus configuration across large-scale deployments
Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances;
execute T‑SQL queries, manage databases, and optimize performance for utility‑scale data requirements
Client Partnership: Work as a technology partner to utility engineers, operators, and IT teams, participating in technical workshops, configuration discussions, and project status meetings
Level 1 Support: Serve as first‑line support for deployed systems, triaging and resolving incidents related to Windows servers, workstations, network connectivity, and SQL Server;
document issues and solutions in knowledge base systems
Remote Collaboration: Conduct structured troubleshooting sessions via screen‑sharing with customer teams, maintaining clear communication throughout deployment and support cycles
Technical Requirements
Essential Windows & Systems Expertise:
3-5 years enterprise Windows environment management with proven large-scale deployment experience (100+ systems)
Expert-level Active Directory administration including complex GPO configurations and multi-site management
Proficiency in DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP networking, subnetting, VLANs, and Windows firewall configuration
Windows Update management and enterprise patch deployment strategies
Antivirus/endpoint security configuration in enterprise environments
PowerShell scripting for configuration management and automation
Microsoft SQL Server administration: installation, configuration, maintenance, backup/recovery, and performance optimization
T‑SQL query writing and database security management
Basic web technologies including IIS configuration and web services
Solid understanding of SMB protocols, VPN, and remote access technologies
Communication & Language Requirements
Professional Communication: Strong verbal and written skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical utility stakeholders
Languages: Fluent English required;
professional working proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese highly valued for direct collaboration with regional utility customers
Remote Facilitation: Ability to lead effective remote troubleshooting sessions and maintain structured, methodical communication in distributed project teams
Utility Industry Knowledge (Highly Preferred)
Operational Technology & Energy Management Systems:
Basic understanding of SCADA, ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management Systems), OMS (Outage Management Systems), and DERMS concepts and terminology
Familiarity with utility communication protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, or ICCP/TASE.2
Awareness of OT/IT network distinctions, security zones, and data diode concepts common in utility environments
Electrical Engineering Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical background, enabling conceptual understanding of distribution grid operations, feeder topology, and power flow basics
Ability to comprehend software functionality in context of utility operations (load flow analysis, fault detection, restoration switching, DER coordination)
Sufficient background to understand customer discussions about substations, feeders, transformers, and protection schemes
Regulatory & Compliance Awareness:
Basic familiarity with NERC CIP, IEC 62351, or regional cybersecurity standards affecting utility control systems
Understanding of change management rigor and documentation expectations in critical infrastructure environments
Work Mode & Travel
Primary: Remote role, working from home or company office while connecting to customer environments via secure remote access
Collaboration: Effectively work in fully remote, distributed project teams using modern collaboration tools (ticketing, chat, video, documentation platforms)
Travel: Occasional travel to customer sites for factory acceptance tests, on‑site commissioning support, or critical go‑lives;
expected to be rare butsometimes extended (several days)
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
CompTIA Network+ or Security+ certification
Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator
Experience in utility/energy sector or critical infrastructure environments
Familiarity with ITIL service management practices
