Siemens Valencia, Valencian Community, Spain

We are looking for someone who is passionate about developing high-performance and/or highly-secured Java applications! Sqills, part of Siemens Mobility business unit Software, is a leading technology company focused on providing innovative solutions for the public transport industry. With a commitment to excellence, we are dedicated to improving the passenger experience and increasing operational efficiency for our clients across the globe. We share one common goal: enhancing the passenger experience with our combined power for the future of Mobility. As an experienced Java Developer, you have a wide range of opportunities. Are you looking for a job with plenty of ways to challenge and improve yourself? Do you value working for a company that supports your professional development and offers working on a mission-critical SaaS suite?

Siemens is operating a Software Development Center in Spain, Valencia targeting Intelligent Solutions for the future of Mobility. We want YOU to join our team.

Our approach

This position is for one of our DevOps team. DevOps teams develop and maintain microservices that are part of S3 Passenger, our ticket and seat-reservation backend system. Some microservices are high-performing and others need extra security because they handle payment data for instance. The team’s responsibility also includes developing other Java applications and managing our CI/CD pipelines and tooling that support daily responsibilities. In addition to Java, the team may also code in Kotlin and Go. We encourage exploring new technologies to improve the performance of our microservices.

Sqills uses Terraform, Kubernetes, and other tools to manage infrastructure (Infrastructure as Code). Our infrastructure combines traditional services, AWS Lambda, and managed services such as DynamoDB, RDS, AmazonMQ, CloudWatch, and ELB. We monitor production services using OpenTelemetry, New Relic, and PagerDuty. We also have a custom-built frontend that integrates these monitoring tools and visualises distributed traces to help analyze errors in our microservice landscape. Secure development, architecture, performance, and resiliency are the cornerstones common to the different teams to ensure the software meets expectations in the future. We continuously strive to improve code quality, performance, and reliability, and share workloads within the team to leverage everyone's strengths.

Your key responsibilities

* Collaborating on software used to find and book seats for major international travel brands like Eurostar, Renfe, and SNCF.
* Optimising the processing of asynchronous requests for high-availability, high-performance components or to secure processes as much as possible.
* Improving development pipelines or helping analyse new feature requests.
* Continuously refactoring code to improve its quality and performance.

Are you a match?

* Do you have what it takes to work on a mission critical Java microservice?
* Are you passionate about refactoring code and making it shine?
* Do you enjoy working in a team that welcomes new perspectives and is eager to hear your ideas?
* Do you get a warm feeling when thinking about learning a new programming language or technology?
* Are you proficient in Dutch and/or English and possess strong communication skills?
* Do you want to have a seriously good time at doing all of this?
* Do you thrive in a “work hard and play hard” culture with team outings and company events?

Curious? Our software is complex enough; applying for a job shouldn’t be. We’ll only ask for a name, a phone number or email address.

We recognise that building a diverse workforce is essential to the success of our business, therefore we encourage applications from a diverse talent pool. We welcome the opportunity to discuss flexibility requirements with our applicants to encourage agile working and innovation. Flexibility is our main benefit. We combine remote and presence work because work-life balance and wellbeing are essential for our teams.
