Scope of the Role The Corporate Business & Portfolio Development (B&PD) function is a core enabler of Italfarmaco’s strategic expansion. The role contributes directly to the identification, evaluation, and execution of external innovation opportunities, including licensing, partnerships, and acquisitions, in line with corporate priorities across neurology, rare diseases, women’s health, and specialty care.
The position offers high cross-functional visibility and direct interaction with external partners, senior leadership, and internal decision forums reporting to
D irector, Business & Portfolio Development.
Key Responsibilities:
Opportunity identification & evaluation Perform structured scouting of external assets, platforms, technologies, and companies aligned with ITF’s strategic priorities. Conduct commercial, scientific, regulatory, and competitive assessments to support go/no-go decisions. Build and refine financial models (NPV, rNPV, P&L impact, scenario analyses). Deal process management Lead the full lifecycle of BD processes: screening → non-confidential evaluation → due diligence → term sheet negotiation → contract execution. Coordinate internal cross-functional teams (Medical, Clinical, Regulatory, CMC, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal). Prepare materials for internal governance committees (NPC, Board, investment committees). Partner interface & relationship building Serve as the point of contact for external companies, advisors, and investors during evaluations and negotiations. Represent Italfarmaco at partnering conferences, scientific congresses, and industry events. Build and maintain a proactive external network to support deal sourcing. Strategic contributions Monitor industry trends, competitive landscapes, and potential shifts in therapeutic and regulatory environments. Provide insights that help shape ITF’s long-term portfolio and BD sourcing roadmap. Operational excellence Ensure high-quality documentation, timelines, and project management across all BD processes. Guarantee confidentiality and rigorous data-handling standards throughout due diligence.
Level-Specific Responsibilities: Drive workstreams within broader BD projects under the supervision of a Senior Manager or Director. Conduct first-pass commercial and competitive evaluations and prepare internal recommendation documents. Support financial modelling and cross-functional assessments. Assist in drafting and reviewing term sheets and contract language in coordination with Legal. Coordinate specific components of due diligence and maintain tracking tools, timelines, and documentation.
Requirements:
Experience Minimum
5+ years
in pharma, biotech, consulting, licensing, or R&D strategy roles. Education & Qualifications Advanced degree (Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Biotechnology). MBA strongly preferred; alternatively, a PhD in Life Sciences is valued. Solid understanding of drug development, regulatory pathways, lifecycle management, and commercial dynamics. Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and strategic thinking, with ability to translate scientific and commercial information into actionable recommendations. Experience with term sheets, deal structures, licensing frameworks, and collaboration models. Ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams in fast-paced, multitasking environments. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across external stakeholders and internal teams. High proficiency in business English; working knowledge of Italian or Spanish is an advantage. Strong project-management discipline, attention to detail, and ability to manage several evaluations simultaneously. Willingness to travel internationally (~20–30%).
