We provide expert, sustainable solutions in records and information management, digital transformation services, data centers, asset lifecycle management, and fine art storage, handling, and logistics. We proudly partner every day with our 225,000 customers around the world to preserve their invaluable artifacts, extract more from their inventory, and protect their data privacy in innovative and socially responsible ways.
Are you curious about being part of our growth story while evolving your skills in a culture that will welcome your unique contributions? If so, let's start the conversation.
Iron Mountain is seeking a dynamic Grid Interconnection & Power Delivery Lead to join our Global Data Centers team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, executing, and overseeing interconnection strategy and energy delivery for new and existing data center sites.
However, this is not a role for managing the status quo—you are the engine. We are looking for a self-starter who understands that nothing happens unless you go out and make it happen.
You will partner across business, engineering, utility, regulatory, and sustainability teams to ensure reliable, cost-effective, and resilient power delivery aligned with renewable energy goals, ESG commitments, and Iron Mountain's growth targets.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
Take End-to-End Ownership:
Develop and drive the interconnection strategy for prospective and operational IMDC data center sites, ensuring alignment with power availability, regulatory frameworks, and the company's sustainability/renewables goals.
Execute Deals:
Lead negotiations and management of interconnection agreements with utilities/ISOs, including power delivery contracts, grid impact studies, and capacity reservations.
Unblock Bottlenecks:
Drive compliance with organizational standards, policies, or regulations pertaining to energy procurement and grid interconnection across the EMEA region. You will actively coordinate with permitting, entitlement, and regulatory bodies to secure approvals needed for interconnection infrastructure (e.G., switchyards, substations, feeder lines).
Leverage Data to Negotiate:
Establish financial models, projections, and risk analyses for interconnection costs, grid upgrade costs, energy price volatility, capacity/rate tariffs, and utility interconnection timelines—and use them aggressively at the negotiating table to secure better terms and lower costs with utilities.
Drive Commercial Impact:
Don't build energy solutions in a vacuum. You will translate your infrastructure strategies into direct commercial wins by partnering with the sales team and key customers. You'll test new energy solutions in the market, demonstrate the bottom-line and ESG impact to clients, and close the feedback loop to ensure our power strategy acts as a competitive advantage to close new business.
What You'll Bring (Skills & Qualifications)
A "Go Out and Do It" Mentality:
You do not wait for momentum;
you create it. You thrive in environments where you have to roll up your sleeves to turn a stalled project into a live site.
Industry Expertise:
Demonstrable experience in energy strategy, procurement, utility relations, or project development for energy-intensive consumers, such as data centers.
Technical Depth:
Strong knowledge of utility interconnection processes, electrical infrastructure, renewable energy sourcing, and energy market dynamics (e.G., tariffs, regulations).
Executive Presence:
Experience negotiating with executives from utilities and regulatory bodies.
Translation Skills:
Proven ability in leading complex, large-scale projects and effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical executive stakeholders.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, environmental, or an energy-related discipline.
Boots on the Ground across Europe:
You won't build critical relationships or get deals across the finish line from behind a desk. Expect pan-European travel. You own your schedule, but you are expected to be on-site, in utility offices, and face-to-face with stakeholders across Europe wherever and whenever it takes to drive a project forward.
What We Offer (Benefits)
Competitive compensation and benefits aligned with the experience.
Versátil work options to support work-life balance.
Comprehensive health, wellness, and retirement plans.
Opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.
