Postdoctoral Scientist, Computational Epigenomics and Genetics
The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute based in Barcelona, Spain, with over 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG boasts an interdisciplinary, motivated, and creative scientific team supported by efficient administration and cutting-edge technologies.
We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral scientist to lead projects in one of the following areas:
1. Analysis and discovery of rare noncoding mutations causing diabetes, utilizing advanced statistical genetics, computational regulatory genomics, and whole genome sequence analysis in unique patient cohorts.
2. Development of high-resolution epigenomic technologies with translational potential using computational strategies.
About the Lab
The Regulatory Genomics and Diabetes lab aims to uncover genetic mechanisms underlying diabetes mellitus and develop therapeutic strategies. The group focuses on understanding how genomic information directs cell-specific gene expression and identifying gene regulatory defects in human disease.
The lab employs diverse expertise, including work with mutant stem cell-derived beta cell organoids, engineered mouse models, single-cell epigenomics, large-scale genetic screens, statistical genetics, and data integration. This multidisciplinary approach facilitates collaborative projects combining experimental and computational methods. Recent studies include:
* A lineage-specific gene transcription and splicing hierarchy disrupted in type 2 diabetes (In review).
* Large-scale discovery of molecular targets for precision treatment of HNF1A-deficient diabetes (In review).
* Transcription regulation by long non-coding RNAs and its disease relevance (Nat Rev Mol Cell Biol, 2024).
* HASTER lncRNA promoter as a cis-acting stabilizer of HNF1A (Nat Cell Biol, 2022).
* Mutations disrupting a developmental enhancer cluster involved in pancreas formation (Dev Cell, 2022).
* Insights into type 2 diabetes genetics from 3D chromatin architecture of human pancreatic islets (Nat Genet, 2019).
