Ultimate Canada is honoured to announce the assistant coaches for the 2026 World U20 Championships taking place June 20-27, 2026, in Logroño, Spain.
Ywan Cohonner started playing in 2017 with the Montreal Titane junior program. The following year, he joined Team Canada U20, then Team Canada U24 in 2023. That same year, Ywan also represented the country in Beach Ultimate. Since 2021, he has been with Royal de Montréal in UFA and plays with Mephisto, with whom he participated in the World Club Championship in 2022. Alongside his playing career, Ywan has been coaching since 2018. He started with his high school and then slowly transitioned to the Titane open program, which he coached in 2022 and 2024 as an assistant coach, and this year, Ywan is the Titane Women's head coach. This year, Ywan was also the head coach of Team Canada U20 East, which participated in PAYUC.
New to coaching Team Canada, Katie Wong brings a wealth of knowledge, having coached in many corners of the Ultimate community. Over the past few years, Katie Wong has coached the senior varsity team at Handsworth Secondary School, leading them to a provincial title in 2024 and a silver medal in 2025. That same year, she helped guide Canyon Women’s to a bronze medal at CJUC, the program’s first-ever podium finish!
As a player, Katie brings extensive national and international experience. She was a member of Team Canada Women’s at WJUC 2016 (gold), and the U24 Mixed team in 2018 (bronze) and 2019 (5th). Her club career includes playing with Traffic (CUC silver in 2017, WUCC 2018) and Red Flag (2020–2023), with highlights such as winning the UCI championship in 2021, earning silver at WUCC 2022, and capturing gold at CUCs in 2023. She currently plays with both Parched (CUCs) and Traffic (USAU).
With a wealth of high-level experience in both coaching and competing, particularly in the Mixed division, Katie is passionate about helping athletes grow their skills, build team chemistry, and bring both intensity and fun to every moment of the season. She believes in developing not just individual talent, but the strength of the team as a whole.
Habib is an NCCP Certified Coach who has been coaching youth and junior sports (Ultimate, football, basketball) for the last 10 years. When it comes to Ultimate, he started his competitive coaching journey in 2018 with the Ottawa Junior Competitive Ultimate Program. He has been the Ignite Head Coach since the season, securing four straight regional championships from 2022 to 2025, a bronze medal in 2023 and a silver medal in 2024. He was also an assistant coach for the 2024 TCU20 Open team for the World Junior Ultimate Championships. Additionally, Habib coaches on the University of Ottawa GeeGees, recently winning a gold medal in 2024 and going to the USA college championships for the second straight year. Finally, Habib also coaches with the FQU on the Quebec side, helping Hydra (Team Quebec Open) in their player development, and Crank, a top senior mixed team out of Ottawa.
Habib has dedicated his entire career to teaching and is currently a curriculum leader in middle school math and science, and holds a master's degree in teaching and learning. Habib is looking forward to helping Canada perform again at the world’s highest level!
Alex Lam
Alex Lam has been involved in Junior Open Ultimate since 2012, where he discovered his passion for coaching through the camaraderie and growth that come with mentoring developing athletes. He strongly believes in empowering athletes to build agency and leadership skills both on and off the field. Over the past ten years, Alex has played a pivotal role in advancing the junior Ultimate scene in British Columbia. He has launched new training programs, led the first Junior BC team to compete at C4UC, and championed the growth of summer club teams.
Alex has served as the head coach of Dyno since its inception in 2023, following his time coaching Eclipse. Under his leadership, these teams secured three gold medals and two silver finishes at CUC. His other accomplishments include winning silver at WUCC 2022 in the Mixed Division with Red Flag, coaching Team Canada U20 in 2022 and 2024, and most recently guiding UBC to qualify for US Nationals—marking their first appearance since 2017.
Alex is honoured to represent Canada once again and is proud to showcase the incredible talent of our young athletes.
Victoria Lam
Victoria was introduced to competitive Ultimate at the age of 16 when she volunteered at WUGC hosted by Vancouver in 2008; she set a goal to make TC one day. She played with the Misfit program and attended her first CUC in 2009, and was part of the UBC Tbirds from. Victoria achieved her drea,m making the U24 Women’s squad in 2013 and 2015 and representing Canada again in 2018 for WUCC with Banana Cutters where she was able to play alongside both of her brothers.
Victoria's love for coaching started over a decade ago when she returned to her high school to coach from, but she really developed her skills when she started coaching Jr club teams from 2013 to present, winning Gold in 2017, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Victoria's most recent coaching accomplishment is returning to UBC Thunderbirds and helping coach the Women’s team to a D1 Championship title for the second time in program history. She is so honoured to return to the U20 TC coaching team, and hopes to continue to build the team alongside Emma and Laura.
Victoria looks forward to supporting and working with the athletes as they prepare and compete at WJUC next summer to represent Canada.
Laura Storey
Laura is proud to join the U20 Women's program as an assistant coach for 2026. She brings a wealth of experience to the role, having recently served as program support coach for Team Canada U17 East in 2025 and assistant coach with Team Canada U20 Women in 2024. Laura is also the current head coach of Ottawa’s Wicked West and has over two decades of playing experience paired with many years dedicated to coaching young athletes.
Her approach centers on fostering strong team culture, leadership development, and a deep respect for the sport. Laura emphasizes spirit of the game, inclusivity, and resilience with every athlete she coaches.
