Meta and reference data architect

We are seeking a Metadata and Reference Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of enterprise-wide metadata and reference data frameworks. In this role, you will ensure that data and metadata are accurately documented, easily discoverable, and seamlessly interoperable across systems.

This position plays a pivotal role in advancing our data governance, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives. You will be responsible for establishing robust metadata systems, driving data quality standards, and enabling efficient data management practices that foster innovation and informed decision-making across the organization.

Key Accountabilities

* Metadata Systems Architecture: Architect and design integration patterns for metadata repositories, catalogs, and lineage tools across our enterprise data platforms.

* Metadata Strategy & Governance: Develop and enforce metadata standards, policies, and best practices. Contribute to metadata governance policies and processes across the organization. Ensure metadata and reference data management practices comply with data privacy and regulatory requirements.

* Metadata Modeling: Design and maintain enterprise metadata models at conceptual and logical levels. Collaborate with the senior ontologist and subject matter experts, on taxonomies and ontologies for structured and unstructured data.

* Reference Data Architecture: Define and maintain the enterprise reference data architecture, including model archetypes, standards, and hierarchies. Collaborate with Master Data Management teams to ensure alignment and interoperability. 

* Metadata Quality Assurance and Support: Define, in collaboration with the Data Quality managers, architectures, patterns and controls to ensure metadata accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Support quality monitoring and improvement.

* Tooling & Automation: Evaluate and implement metadata management tools. Provide requirements for automating metadata capture and synchronization.

* Knowledge Sharing & Collaboration: Provide guidance and training on metadata standards and tools. Collaborate with governance, engineers, ontologists, architects, and business stakeholders. Lead the metadata community of practice. 

* Metadata Innovation: Research and propose new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance metadata practices.

We’re looking for someone with:

Education

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.

Work Experience

* 5+ years of experience in metadata management, data architecture, or enterprise data governance.

* 5+ experience with industry metadata and reference data standards (e.g., ISO 11179, DAMA-DMBOK, FAIR).

* Hands-on experience with metadata management tools such as Atlan, Informatica, or IBM.

* Familiarity with W3C semantic standards (e.g., OWL, SHACL, SKOS)

* Demonstrated ability to communicate complex metadata concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

* Familiarity with metadata modeling, reference data architecture, and data quality frameworks.

* Interpersonal Skills - Ability to communicate effectively up and down the organization and manage conflicts

* Leadership Skills - Aptitude to lead others, drive performance of your organization. Be a champion of processes and drive change across your network

* System Savvy - Ability to comprehend system landscape, data flow and system functionalities to drive system usage and automation
