OFFER DESCRIPTION
The Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA), based in Girona, is a research centre created in 2006 by the Government of Catalonia within the CERCA program.
ICRA is offering a position for a specialised research technician to work on the analysis and study of the behaviour of emerging contaminants in groundwater. This contract is funded by Agencia Estatal de Investigación from the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the European Fund within the framework of the Ramón y Cajal scholarship (RYC2020-030324-I/MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and the FSE “The FSE invests in your future”).
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
* supporting the laboratory in sampling and sample pre‑treatment;
* collaborating in the analysis of emerging contaminants in groundwater using innovative liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC‑MS/MS) and high‑resolution mass spectrometry (LC‑HRMS) methods;
* participating in field campaigns and sampling activities to study the occurrence and transport of these compounds in groundwater;
* performing quantification and data processing derived from LC‑MS/MS and LC‑HRMS analyses;
* contributing to results evaluation and the preparation of technical reports.
KEY DUTIES
* supporting the analysis of emerging contaminants in groundwater using innovative analytical methods, including targeted and suspect screening approaches;
* preparing samples, performing analyses, and quantifying emerging contaminants;
* collaborating in field campaigns to study the presence and transport of contaminants in groundwater;
* processing data and preparing technical reports.
Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Biology or equivalent field
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION LEVEL:
Degree or Masters in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Biology or equivalent field. It will be valued to possess the PhD.
SKILLS:
* Training in laboratory and/or field work;
* Knowledge of sample preparation and analytical techniques involving liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry for the analysis of emerging contaminants;
* Proficiency in statistical data analysis using R or similar tools;
* Strong organisational skills;
* Ability to write technical reports;
* Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team;
* A valid driver’s licence will be considered an advantage.
REQUIRED LANGUAGES:
* English – Good
* Spanish – Good
* Catalan – Good
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Training in chemistry, environmental sciences, biology, or related disciplines will be valued, as well as experience and training in sample preparation techniques and instrumental analysis (gas and liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry) for the analysis of emerging contaminants in environmental samples.
Fieldwork experience will also be taken into consideration.
Holding a master’s degree and/or a PhD will be considered an asset.
Experience in the use of software for processing liquid chromatography and tandem/high‑resolution mass spectrometry data, as well as in statistical data analysis using R or similar tools.

Selection process:
In accordance with the OTM‑R principles, a gender‑balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
