Context And MissionThe Barcelona Supercomputing Center’s Urban Data Science research team is looking for a research engineer specialized in spatial data analysis and bicycle mobility. Urban Data Science applies AI and machine‑learning methods to tackle socio‑economic challenges such as equity, climate resilience and quality of life. The candidate will work on data and models that help cities become climate‑neutral in 2030, especially through fostering sustainable transportation modes such as cycling. The role involves collaborating with city officials on urban intervention projects and working with the team and group researchers. The candidate will prepare and analyse geolocated data from multiple heterogeneous sources, and create models and analyses that answer research questions posed by scientists and city administrators.
Key Duties
Receive, ingest, prepare, and clean data from external stakeholders.
Analyze the data and develop statistical models focused on spatial features.
Aid with the synthesis, lessons for policy and planning, and dissemination activities.
Collaborate in preparing publications and research outputs, including co‑authored academic articles, policy briefs, and community events.
Requirements
Education
Master’s degree in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience with spatial data analysis methods.
Experience on applied data science projects.
Knowledge and experience (≥2 years) on data related to urban cycling.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience with Python geospatial analysis libraries (e.G., GeoPandas, PySAL).
Experience with geo‑analysis platforms (e.G., QGIS, Carto).
Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish.
Competences
Excellent communication skills, especially for producing documentation (reports, manuals, papers).
Conditions
Position located at BSC within the CASE Department.
Full‑time contract (37.5 h/week) with a stimulating environment, state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures.
Open‑ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration.
Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24 th and 31 st December per the collective agreement.
Salary competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, according to the cost of living in Barcelona.
Starting date: 01/11/2025.

Recruitment Process
Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience, scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information. (40 points)
Interview Phase: Technical and personal competencies are assessed. (60 points). A minimum of 30 out of 60 points is required to be eligible.
Recruitment panel: At least three people, ensuring at least 25 % representation of women.
The panel will conduct interviews (technical and administrative), a personality questionnaire, and a technical exercise. Final decision and feedback will be provided to all participants.
