The Terminal Design department defines APMT’s operational guidelines, best practices, and terminal design standards. Terminal Operations Designers are key contributors to greenfield developments and upgrades to existing concessions, providing strategic guidance that shapes the company’s core operations. As part of Business Implementation, the Designer collaborates closely with Investment, Operations Excellence, Procurement, and Terminals to maximize business and customer value.
The Terminal Operations Designer (Global Asset Design & Engineering Function) will be responsible for design layouts, operational models and terminal simulations with the purpose of demonstrating the best utilization of assets, complying with the APMT Way of Working and standardization of processes.

Location: Flexible between Barcelona, Spain & The Hague, Netherlands ( Short -term travel as needed to support project and APMT Project Execution requirements)
Key Responsibilities:
Global accountability for reviewing all operational investment proposals (> USD 200m annually), challenging entities to improve and align with APMT’s Way of Working.
Lead operational improvement analysis across ad hoc requests, Investment Proposals, Business Cases, and A3 Problem Solving.
Set standards through the Design Handbook and functional requirements for equipment, installations, and systems.
Drive continuous improvement by identifying root causes and proposing alternative designs and operations.
Lead operational modeling, terminal simulation, and design of terminal processes, prioritizing layout, capacity, equipment, and gate/rail operations.
Standardize and improve design processes, ensuring consistent inputs and outputs for Finance, IT, and HR.
Support Project Execution with operationally impactful design solutions through project completion.
Coordinate between terminals, consultants, and CAD designers.
Document and transfer design knowledge to Project Execution and Engineering.
Support global operations initiatives and ad hoc business-critical improvements.
Conduct site visits to evaluate and improve designs, provide leadership, and identify Kaizen opportunities.
Lead operational assumptions for Greenfields, defining automation levels based on maturity and value.
Deploy terminal simulation across the portfolio, supporting TTI and collaborating with Regional Operations.
Integrate Asset Digitization and TOS databases into simulation tools to maximize automation.
Lead simulation projects enabling real-time use at GEMBA.
We Are Looking For:
* Solid experience working in ports and terminals (Containers & General Cargo).
* Team management experience of delivering within a defined methodology.
* Ability to influence and engage with all levels of management – maturity in engaging with executives is key.
* Terminal design & solution driven mindset.
* Strong ability to consume complex and technical knowledge up/ down across processes/ functions, simplify and communicate the information effectively (communicated at the right level of detail and the right level).
* Lead change through all levels of the organization – from senior management in Corporate to management in projects.
* Excellent English written and verbal communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
* ‘Hands on’ ability to Lead execution and facilitate workshops. Strong understanding of project management.
* Discipline, transparency and consistency around core deliverables and decision points.
* Self-aware of gaps to achieve his/her professional plans and targets, seeking continuous self-development.
* Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects, of different natures, in different geographical locations and with different stakeholders.
* Deep knowledge of Lean fundamentals
