About the role
The IT Technical Release Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of software releases across complex, multi-application environments. Acting as a key bridge between Development, Quality Assurance, and Operations, this role ensures releases are delivered safely, securely, and on time, with full operational readiness.
The Release Manager owns the end‑to‑end release lifecycle, ensuring compliance with governance and change processes while minimising risk and business disruption, particularly in large transformation and SAP S/4HANA environments.

Key Responsibilities
Release Planning & Coordination
Own end‑to‑end release planning and scheduling across multiple applications, platforms, and environments (Dev, Test, UAT, Pre‑Prod, Prod).
Develop and maintain the enterprise release calendar, managing dependencies, blackout periods, and approved change windows.
Facilitate release readiness reviews, ensuring scope, risks, approvals, deployment and rollback plans are clearly defined.
Coordinate release activities across Development, QA, Infrastructure, Security, and Operations teams.
Execution & Deployment Management
Lead and oversee release execution, ensuring deployments complete successfully within approved timelines.
Ensure releases meet technical, quality, security, and operational readiness criteria prior to production deployment.
Manage cutover activities, including data migrations, configuration changes, and validation steps.
Act as the primary point of contact during release windows, managing incidents, escalations, and go/no‑go decisions.
Governance, Risk & Control
Ensure releases comply with change management processes, internal controls, and audit requirements.
Validate that all required approvals, documentation, and testing evidence are in place prior to deployment.
Identify, assess, and manage release risks and dependencies, defining mitigation and contingency plans.
Maintain end‑to‑end traceability across features, defects, change requests, and deployed releases.
Quality & Stability
Partner closely with QA teams to confirm test completion, defect thresholds, and release readiness criteria.
Ensure rollback, contingency, and post‑deployment validation plans are defined and tested.
Monitor post‑release stability and coordinate rapid resolution of deployment‑related issues.
Communication & Stakeholder Management
Provide clear and timely communication to technical and business stakeholders on release scope, schedules, risks, and outcomes.
Produce and distribute release notes and deployment communications.
Chair release governance forums, readiness checkpoints, and post‑implementation reviews.
Collaborate with Product Owners, Project Managers, and Service Managers to align release activity with business priorities.
Continuous Improvement
Drive continuous improvement of release processes, tooling, and automation to increase reliability and predictability.
Analyse release metrics (success rates, failures, rollbacks) and implement corrective actions.
Support the adoption of DevOps and CI/CD practices, while maintaining appropriate governance and controls.
