The project focuses on synthesizing networks of nanowires using a novel process where nanowires are grown rapidly in the gas phase from an aerosol of catalyst nanoparticles. This CVD mode allows for large-scale synthesis of nanowire networks, enabling applications in energy storage and other fields. The main goal is to understand nanowire growth mechanisms—such as alloy formation, crystal nucleation, and layer growth—for different chemistries like Si, SiC, and metal oxides. The researcher will apply methods to control nanowire structures, including size distribution, crystal polytype, and heterostructure formation. The researcher will assist in designing and constructing advanced chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesis and monitoring equipment. Extensive synthesis experiments and multi-scale characterization techniques—such as particle differential mobility analysis, electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction—will be conducted. The work environment is highly collaborative and funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant.Qualifications
PhD and Master’s degree in inorganic chemistry, nanofabrication, materials science, chemical engineering, or applied physics.Experience in thermocatalytic nanomaterial synthesis, thin-film deposition, aerosol science, or instrumentation is advantageous.Strong interest in experimental research is essential.Proficiency in English (written and oral) is required.Additional Information
Applications are processed upon receipt, and the position may close after ten working days from publication. Early application is encouraged. The working language is English. IMDEA promotes diversity and equal opportunities. Female applicants are especially encouraged to apply.Benefits include a stimulating environment, professional growth opportunities, and training in technical and transversal skills.Position details:
