Instructional Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer, Fresno
Position Summary
The successful applicant may teach Chinese, Hmong, Japanese, English 5A, English 5B, English 10, or Linguistics courses, including high‑enrollment general education courses. Candidates should be qualified to teach any of the following: Chinese, Hmong, Japanese, or Linguistics.
Instructor Responsibility
Temporary faculty are responsible for adherence to university and system‑wide policies, as directed in the Academic Policy Manual 306. Responsibilities include preparation, delivery, conduct, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester, in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid). Part‑time lecturers serve as the instructor of record for class assignments ranging from 3–15 weighted teaching units in a semester.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and is based on the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For holders of a Master’s degree, the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.
Anticipated Semester
The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Pool appointments are typically made just prior to the start of an academic term and may be available on short notice. The pool remains in place for up to two academic terms; thereafter applicants must reapply. Examples:
Fall 2026: August 19 – December 22 2026
Spring 2027: January 15 – May 26 2027
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Linguistics, English, Teaching English as a Second Language, or a similar field or applicable foreign language area.
Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations or other evidence.
Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Temporary appointments are subject to budget and enrollment considerations and may be contingent on order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. Eligibility to work in the United States is required.
