FUNCTIONS
Our client is a pharmaceutical and biotechnological company specializing in prevention and diagnosis for animal and human health. They offer a broad range of innovative vaccines and advanced diagnostic services, with a strong international presence in over 40 countries, including subsidiaries, 11 diagnostic centres, and 6 production plants strategically located in Europe (Spain) and America (Brazil). Their core focus is Research and Development, dedicating 15% of annual turnover to R&D activities that leverage scientific advances to develop high-quality innovative vaccines. They also develop medical devices and traceability services to add value to their vaccination experience.
We are seeking a talented Fully or Partially Qualified European Patent Attorney for our headquarters in Girona, Spain.
Responsibilities
* Assessing innovative R&D developments with scientific staff and business units, providing IP advisory services.
* Preparing patent landscape and FTO analyses for the EU and global R&D pipeline.
* Performing state-of-the-art and patentability search reports.
* Maintaining internal IP databases.
* Managing the global prosecution of patent rights.
* Drafting and handling oppositions, appeal proceedings, and observations before the EPO.
* Providing validity opinions and infringement advice to R&D and business units.
* Establishing confidentiality actions to protect IP.
* Providing technical support for business development.
Requirements
* EQE (European Qualifying Examination) fully or partly passed (mandatory).
* Solid scientific background, such as a bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, or related disciplines in the life sciences.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and preparing reports on patentability and FTO opinions.
* Experience with biologicals and biotech products is preferred.
* Excellent command of English and Spanish; knowledge of French and German is a plus.
* Strong technical, writing, communication, and analytical skills.
* Ability to analyze large data volumes and suggest commercial, actionable decisions.
* Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills to design and enforce IP work plans.
* Highly responsible, meticulous, and capable of managing strict deadlines while prioritizing high R&D workloads.
