PhD position within the ATLAS experiment
Cartagena
EUR 30.000 - 50.000
The Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC) is a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Valencia (UV), dedicated to particle, astroparticle, and nuclear research, covering both theoretical and experimental aspects. It is recognized as a Severo Ochoa Excellence Centre. More information about IFIC can be found at the ATLAS group at IFIC offers a PhD position within the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC, with a starting date in Summer or Autumn of 2025.
The group is actively involved in the operation and Phase-II upgrade of the detector for the High Luminosity LHC, particularly focusing on the Inner Detector, Tile Calorimeter, and Trigger systems. The group has expertise in modeling physics processes using Monte Carlo event generators, tracking, electron, photon, and tau reconstruction and identification, and is deeply engaged in top quark and Higgs boson physics, contributing to precise measurements of their properties and searches for new phenomena.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to new measurements involving top quarks and/or Higgs bosons to probe their couplings and study quantum entanglement, as well as perform performance studies. The study of these particles is a primary focus at the LHC. The PhD candidate will utilize cutting-edge technologies such as big data analytics and artificial intelligence. Candidates should demonstrate personal initiative and a strong interest in particle physics data analysis and be willing to participate in one of the world's largest scientific collaborations. The position will be based in Valencia, with research stays at CERN.
