The National Bank of the Virgin Islands ("the Bank") is seeking a qualified person to fill the following full-time position:
Commercial Relationship Officer
Job Summary:
To manage and grow a portfolio of commercial lending relationships by originating, assessing, structuring, and monitoring commercial credit facilities in accordance with the Bank's credit risk framework.
The Commercial Relationship Officer is responsible for maintaining strong client relationships, ensuring sound credit underwriting and documentation practices, supporting portfolio quality through proactive monitoring and collections, and ensuring full compliance with internal policies and the applicable Laws of the Virgin Islands.
Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Relationship Management and Business Development
* Develop and maintain strong, professional relationships with existing and prospective commercial clients.
* Identify opportunities to expand commercial lending relationships in alignment with portfolio growth objectives.
* Conduct client meetings, site visits, and financial reviews to assess business performance and creditworthiness.
* Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned commercial borrowers, ensuring responsive and professional service delivery.
Credit Origination and Underwriting
* Prepares and structures commercial credit applications for approval, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the Bank's credit policies and procedures.
* Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including cash flow assessments, ratio analysis, and evaluation of repayment capacity.
* Ensure that all commercial credit assessments are properly verified and reflect sound credit-granting principles.
* Apply appropriate commercial loan pricing in accordance with the Bank's Credit Risk Manual and approved pricing guidelines.
* Submit credit assessments, reports, and recommendations to the Chief Credit Officer and/or Credit Manager.
* Ensure that all proposals and credit extensions comply fully with established credit policies and delegated authorities.
Loan Documentation, Security and Disbursement
* Ensure that all commercial loan security is documented correctly, perfected, and compliant with the Bank's lending guidelines before disbursement.
* Confirm adequacy and enforceability of collateral in accordance with policy requirements.
* Maintain complete and accurate commercial loan files, ensuring sufficient documentation to support credit decisions and protect the Bank's collateral position.
* Oversee the timely disbursement of commercial loan proceeds once all conditions precedent have been satisfied.
* Portfolio Monitoring and Credit Administration
* Conduct periodic reviews of commercial loan accounts to ensure ongoing compliance with loan terms, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
* Monitor borrowers' financial performance and identify early warning signs of credit deterioration.
* Prepare periodic reports for the Credit Manager and/or the Chief Credit Officer on portfolio performance, asset quality, and the achievement of growth targets.
* Ensure retention and proper maintenance of commercial customer files in accordance with recordkeeping standards.
Delinquency Management and Collections Support
* Assist with monitoring delinquent or past-due commercial loan accounts.
* Conduct interviews and meetings with delinquent commercial borrowers in conjunction with the Collections Unit.
* Recommend corrective actions, restructuring strategies, or recovery measures where appropriate.
Policy and Regulatory Compliance
* Assist in monitoring Credit/Lending policies and procedures to ensure effective administration and regulatory compliance.
* Recommend policy or procedural improvements to the Credit Manager and Chief Credit Officer where necessary.
* Ensure adherence to the Bank's policies, credit standards, and applicable regulations and Laws of the Virgin Islands.
Other Duties
* Perform additional duties, assignments, or special projects as required to support the operational and strategic needs of the Credit Department and the Bank.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, Accounting, Management, or another financial-related discipline
Experience:
* Minimum of three (3) years' experience in Banking, Business Management, Accounting, or a related credit-focused role.
* Demonstrated experience in commercial credit underwriting and relationship management is preferred.
Training/Skill Requirements:
* Strong commercial credit underwriting and financial analysis skills
* Knowledge of banking products and commercial lending structures
* Understanding of local banking regulations and Virgin Islands legislation
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and credit-related systems
* Sound judgement and risk assessment capability
* Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
* Strong organisational and time-management abilities
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
* Professional tact and diplomacy in customer and internal interactions
* Mathematical aptitude and analytical thinking
* Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic business environment
