Undergraduate Student - System Administrator/Operator (R0)
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is hosting entity for EuroHPC JU. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into computer and computational science under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.
Context And Mission
We are looking for 2 students with technical expertise for our System Operations team within the Operations Department. We offer paid internship contracts with flexible working hours respecting the course hours of each candidate.
Key Duties
* First level support of incidents (tickets) in the system administration group – reception, filter and resolution
* Management of user accounts in the supercomputers of the BSC-CNS (accounts creation, etc.)
* Opening and monitoring of MareNostrum hardware incidents and the rest of the BSC-CNS supercomputers
* Control and first-level support of the centre's backup system
* Support to the hardware tasks of the various data centres of the BSC-CNS (labels, cables, etc.)
* First-level support for the virtual machines of the various clouds hosted by the BSC-CNS
* Inventory management of the various network components and BSC-CNS systems
* Monitoring of the center networks
* Defined procedures implementation and improvement for the operations team
Requirements
* Education
* University student: Diploma or technical degree, preferably in Computer Science
* Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
* Linux and/or Linux platform network administration
* Good communication skills and ability to deal with users
* Proactive, responsible and organized
* Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
* Basic supercomputing knowledge and high level of English will be positively valued
* Competences
* Good level in communication
Conditions
* The position will be located at BSC within the Operations Department
* Full-time contract (37.5h/week) with flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and relocation support
* Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
* Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
* Salary: competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
* Starting date: 16/09/2025

Recruitment Process
The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system (Concurso-Oposición). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
* Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position. - 40 points
* Interview phase: Evaluation of technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible.
