Position: Instructional Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer

Position Summary
The department seeks qualified candidates to teach a range of undergraduate courses including the following:
- MCJ 2 Media Writing
- MCJ 102W Reporting
- MCJ 106 Publication Design
- MCJ 107 Data Journalism
- MCJ 108 Public Affairs Reporting
- MCJ 121 News Video Production
- MCJ 124 Intermediate Broadcast News Writing
- MCJ 125 Radio Reporting and Podcasting
- MCJ 167 Sports Journalism
- MCJ 177T TV and Digital News Producing
- Other courses as identified by the department
Temporary faculty are responsible for preparing, delivering, and grading the assigned courses in accordance with university policies.
Instructor Responsibilities
- Adhere to university and system‑wide policies per Academic Policy Manual 306.
- Prepare, deliver, and conduct lectures, office hours, assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams.
- Maintain scheduled class sessions in the mode assigned (in‑person, asynchronous, synchronous, or hybrid).
Compensation
Monthly salary ranges based on qualifications and experience (CSU Salary Schedule Class Code 2358). For faculty with a master’s degree: $5,507–$6,677 per month (full‑time, 15 WTUs). Presente pay will be adjusted based on WTUs assigned.
Appointment Terms
Positions are contingency‑based, filled as needed by budget and enrollment. The temporary faculty pool is available for two academic terms; renewals require re‑application. Expected semesters:
- Fall 2026 – August 19 2026 to December 22 2026
- Spring 2027 – January 15 2027 to May 26 2027
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Media, Communications, Journalism or related field with emphasis in Broadcast, Multimedia, or Digital Journalism.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students, faculty, and staff.
- Professional‑level news organization experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level with evidence of teaching effectiveness.
- Experience in data journalism, sports journalism, investigative reporting, news video production, or storytelling.
